MSD Blaster 2 Mounting Questions
I've recently realized that there are many posts here stating that the MSD Blaster 2 shouldn't be mounted in the standard Bosch position; ie pointing downward @ an angle.
My Blaster 2 has been mounted this way for about 3 years; although apparently there haven't been any associated problems. I intend to invert it however. I think I have enough wire available to reverse it in the factory mount on the fan shroud. In the event that I can't find a suitable way to mount it vertically, then I'll probably go w/ the high vibration coil, which can be mounted in any position. My questions, then, are: Can the high vibration coil be used w/ my exst dizzy, which has breaker points? Can I just swap in the hi vibe for what I have now?

My two Blaster coils are mounted pointing about 70 degrees down, has worked for years. There is an oil-filled Blaster coil that can't be mounted upside-down. Maybe that's what you have?

I mounted my MSD high vibration (MSD-PN8222) in the factory mount - as far as I understand, that's the way it's supposed to be mounted. I've had it that way for a few years, and as you know, I drive my car hard and it spends a lot of time north of 5000 rpm - never had a problem.

As I understand it, I have the oil filled one, which, according to the MSD website, they "recommend" be mounted vertically. So I guess I need to see if I can turn mine around. Do you have a points style dizzy? (I'm guessing you do not, so you wouldn't have the resistor). Christien, The high vibe one can apparently be mounted in any position, as you have, because it is epoxy potted; not oil filled. Do you have points in your dizzy? If so, I understand you need MSD's resistor. I'm pretty sure I have this already for my Blaster2. So the question is: do you have points and the resistor along w/ your hi vibe coil? Thank you. BTW how is the tranny?

I ran mine with the High Vib coil and points with no resistor for years before I got a Pertronix. There are probably 100 stories about having an oil filled coil mounted upside down. I have seen a few oil filled coils that failed, and they work great right up until they fail. They say not to leave the ignition on without the engine running because the coil will overheat. The oil is there to help cool the coil, so it makes sense that the manufacturers say to mount the oil filled coils vertically - that's the way they are designed to operate. For my peace of mind, I bought the High Vib coil.

Thanks, Walter. That's what I was after. I checked around the engine compartment and didn't see a resistor. If I can't figure out how to mount the coil I have now vertically, I think I'll get the hi vib.

Tranny is fine - shifting beautifully, and almost leak free! It's not 100% leak-free, but close enough that I'll probably just leave it. The engine and various hoses leak much more than the tranny (and still not too bad - maybe a couple drops overnight).
