Anyone Try R414B "Hot Shot " in A/C System ?
I asked this question in my A/C hose replacement thread but never got much feedback so I will post in it s own thread:
I would like to upgrade my A/C system ( it does not work) sufficiently to get some cooling. PPI when I purshased the car indicated that system probably just needed a recharge and conversion to R134 gas. I have read numerous threads and ordered new barrier hoses and a new filter drier. SHould have the hoses run today. Am leaving lines/filter capped until I am ready to charge. I only want to replace necessary components to get OEM cooling level as I am in PEI not Dallas or LA. I was all set to start getting condensers cleaned for the refrigerant change when I spoke to a good commercial/industrial refrigeration tech friend of mine about the R12 oil removal from the system prior to the R134A charging and he suggested I consider R414 as a replacement instead. He indicated that he used it very good results as a direct drop in replacement for the R12 in many commercial systems. I do not see why this would not work but am wondering if others have tried this route. The tech indicated that he the oil was compatible so no mineral solvent flushing was really not necessary. I know Dupont is not recommending their product for autos but it is EPA approved for automotive use and is being marketed by Icor as "Hot Shot" specifically targetted for automotive applications. Anyone out there have experience with R414 in the 911 A/C system ? Thoughts ?? |

If you do use it, make sure you don't overfill, it should be at about 90% and still have bubbles otherwise it will not cool. I use it in a wine cellar cooler designed for r12 and that was the mfg's suggestion. I would just check it has no propane or butane.
