Sway-a Way Install Instructions Needed
I have a set of Sway-a Way adjustable spring plates ready to fit to my 1973 911T.
However, I do not have the instructions, nor pictures of the correct orientation etc. Pictures found here show the height adjuster screw coming up from underneath - is this correct ? I have no end covers for the fixing plate and torsion tube - these are pink - where can I get them ? Does anyone have any fixing instructions they could e-mail me or post here ? Ian

I have two plates, an inner and an outer that appear to just slot over one another ?
I have no special mounting plates, only the factory covers and bolts ? Here is my thread on my ER polybronze Install 73T - Rear Polybronze Install / Sway-a-Way Spring Plates Ian

On the rear cover for the torsion bar that mounts to the tub, can someone tell me what goes behind the bottom rear hole? I have the round steel standoff washer (the other 3 mount to the standoffs that are welded to the tub. My problem is that the back bottom gap behind the plate is about 3 mm thicker than the separate standoff. Im wondering if there is another washer or something that Im forgetting? Also, I my outer sway a way plate was hitting the standoff that is welded to the body (the lower front) so I had to grind clearance on the arm. Is this common?

Carrerax
Good question. I have the separate washer from my original 1973 spring plate and mount, but haven't bolted it all up yet, so don't know if I have a gap or not. An answer here or picture would be appreciated as always. Ian

If it is dry, as I have to work outside, then next week.

Make sure to check for clearance like i said above. I had to gring a good 2-3mm off the corner to clear the mounting nub. also, remember that it rotates so you need to make it is clear as it comes around.

Can someone tell me if the black bushing goes on the inside or the outside? I bought these used and they were missing an inner bushing (assumed to be black since that is the one that was missing) so I ordered a new inner from our host and when it arrived it was red. when I look at the sway a way arms in the catalog they now show all red bushings. This is getting confusing! Also, regarding the earlier question about the spacer on the lower rear bolt, it looks like there should also be a 3.5 mm (or about .15") in addition to the collar. Can someone confirm? Thanks. Mark

You should scour the archives for anything related to SAW spring plates. I think you will pick up much of the information you seek from those numerous threads and accompanying photographs. Reason why I asked is your question about the direction of the adjustment screw.
Then return here for specific questions still not answered in your point of view. Do you have any books on upgrading the 911? B. Anderson's, Wayne Dempsey's, etc. The search button is your friend, Sherwood |

Hi Sherwood,
Unfortunately the search will not allow the word SAW, but I searched and found articles - I see you can use "+" to provide and "AND" function. I have Bruce Anderson and Wayne's books also. Mark - I used ER Polybronze Bushings and they came with spacer washers to go between the torsion bar cover and the standoff points - I used 5 under each. If your torsion bar cover is bent, then that could leave a gap ? Ian
