Can someone please check a part # for me
The PO of my SC replaced the front struts, and I plan on replacing the rear shocks. I want them to match, but I don't know if he used standard or sport Bilsteins. One of the struts had a part# sticker on it. If someone could check for me, I would appreciate it.
This is the number on the sticker: 911 341 042 33 Thanks in advance Tom 82 911 SC Coupe |

Tom,
My Parts and Technical Reference Catalog lists part number 911 341 042 33 as a Bilstein strut (right) for a 1976 - 88 Turbo and other models through certain VINs in 1985. The same number is listed for 1974 - 83 Bilstein struts (right) with A & S calipers. And while there are different #s listed for Boge standard vs sport struts no such distinction is drawn for Bilstein struts. Thank you for checking, Rod.
If the part number is the same, is there any way to tell the standard Bilstein struts from the sport version? Tom |

Tom,
I'm far from an expert here but I inferred from my reference that the factory only offered one type of Bilstein strut for your car. Since it was also used on the Turbo models I would think it to be more of a "sport" strut than the standard Boges but not specifically designated as such. By the way, the part number for the rear Bilstein shock absorbers is 911 333 051 55 (for 1982 only for some reason - surrounding years have different numbers). Check out www.bilstein.com for cross-referencing OEM p/n.
I think you will want to know what cartridge you have in your strut. I think you can place a sport cartridge within the strut. That's what I found out about my Bilstein struts (green housing). Just my .02 ------------------ Nick Hromyak '85 Carrera |

Thanks for the help guys.
OK, I guess I didn't (don't?) understand how the front shocks work. From looking at the Blistein page, I guess the part number I listed is for the strut housing, which is the same for standard and sport versions. The insert is what actualy is the shock absorber, and there is no way of telling what my car's PO installed without removing the cartridge and looking for a Blistein number of some sort. Is this correct? |

Yes, Tom, you're right - the only way to see what cartridge the PO used is to take it out and look. Someone else may call me on this but I can't see that you would have any great problem by just going ahead and putting Bilstein sport shocks in the rear, especially if you aren't tracking the car.
