TRG Sway bars: any experience?
Does anybody have any experience with the TRG sway bars as sold by Rennsport
http://www.rennsportsystems.com/~porsche/1-sb.html they are less expensive (somewhat) than "Charlie Bars" which, I've heard, are hard to get as well. the TRGs look to be high quality. also, where can I find a good article on installing "through the body bars" on an '84? I can see how the rear goes, but I'm lost up front. the article on this site is for 914. thanks and regards Andy |

You're right. The article is about 914, but it's the same way 911's front bar to be installed too. They both are throught body style bar. You can't see the bar below the car. It hide underneath the fuel tank. In order to install it, you have to drop the fuel tank and drill couple holes on the body. I have no experience on TRG bar, but seems good in the picture. Try to call Wrightwood if you interested in Charlie Bars. I think you can find their phone # from Bruce Anderson's book. I was lucky enough to buy a used pair from a fellow racer when his car retired and to be restored for street use. Andy '87 Carrera |

Andy, I installed a through the body on my 89 which should be the same as your car. Without going into details, I'll give you the simple points:
1. Remove the old bar by removing the bolts that hold it and the tie rod cover. 2. Pry the bar out of the old rubber grommets on top of the A arms. 3. Use either a hacksaw of better a sawzall with a metal cutting blade and remove the sway bar mounting bracket on the A arm. 4. The car has a embossed area that the sway bar goes through. You can see a triangular area inside of the front strut. In the center is where the one inch hole is drilled. 5. Drill the large hole in the center of this embosse. 6. Use the mounting hardware to locate and drill the holes for the bracet. 7. Use a reinforcing bracket on the inside of the car (Weltmeister) to aid in reinforcement. Pull a string from the interior of the car through the main hole and then slide this bracket internally until the holes align. 8. Bolt up brackets, slide bar through, attach droplinks. 9. Place U tab over A arm and drill hole though. Use grade 8 bolts. 10. Attach droplink I use generic terms dependant on what brand you use. I used AJUSA, but the same applies to Welmeister. If you get to the point where you need specific question answered, let me know. ------------------ 8 9 9 1 1, The last of the line. |

Andy,
I have TRG bars on my '72 with 3.2L track/autox 911: A size on front, B size on rear (A is smallest, B medium and C largest available). These are by The Racers Group, are hollow, and of extremely high quality. They are modeled after the "Charlie Bars", the first high quality aftermarket through-the-body style adjustable swaybar built by Wrightwood Racing. Both are great, are upgradeable and will last forever. Randy W |
