Need help removing 1986 Carrera Tach

I'm trying to remove the tach from my 1986 911 Carrera. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to remove the 3 red plugs with wires going into them from the back of the tachometer. Can someone please explain what I need to do?

Use a small tiny screwdriver to gently pry them out slipping the screw driver in the space and grabbing the red base with two fingers. They will come right out.

Small flat screw driver and pry it up on the edge. It will give.

I am confused. What am I prying exactly? Am I supposed to get the tiny screwdriver all the way under the plugs and force them out? It looks like there is some kind of washer being held in place by a metal rim. Am I supposed to pry that rim up?
