I added an accessory plug under the dash on my SC. Wired it into a fused connection. I also made sure it was a point that is always energized so that phone etc can be charged with the ignition off.

Are you sure its not working, or is it just that the lighter 'hole' is too big for the phone charger plug. For some reason these things are not standard size. I just bought a radar detector and now need to rig up a hard wired power source because the plug (which was standard size) was too small for the cig lighter opening.

get one of these. get a few if you need more than one. i have 2 of them under my dash in my other car, one for the radar and one for the gps. saves having to ruin the power cords. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=265-570 ps> if you do the striped line is the negative. |

"Fix the cigarette lighter..." I carry the non-solar version of this almost everywhere: http://www.earthtechproducts.com/p2588.html http://www.powderfin.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=575 Charges cell phones, bluetooth headsets, ipods, whatever. It re-charges itself from AC power, USB, solar panel. Invaluable if you forget to pack a real charger. I bought one in an airport shop just before a transatlantic flight with a flat ipod... Buy dot com had the Solar one on special for $40 a while back.

Thanks, I appreciate the suggestion. I have an Escort radar detector and the power cord uses a regular telephone style connector for the power cord. I haven't tested it to confirm 12 volt operation, but if it is, I will make my own permanent mounted power cord. I have all the goodies to make them as I am a telecommunications technician. Failing that, I could just go out and pick up one of their hard wired cords... I like the idea of having no coiled cord hanging from my windshield down the dash.
I don't need any other 12 v outlets as my phone charges up from a plug on my radio.

Check if you have 12V at the center of the cigarret lighter. If you have 12V then the problem is at the charger connector.
