Another Fuch question
I know it's here somewhere but I can't find it via the search engine.
I have a 1973 911T with all the "S" trim with a 3.2 engine. It has a stock body with standard wheel well flares. Currently I have Deep 6 Fuch wheels with 195/65 x 15 Pirelli tires. I want to change to 7x15 Fuch wheels. There are so many different ones out there so, anyone with knowledge of the correct wheel that will fit and not make it look like a "Hot Wheel's" car with tires protruding beyond the wheel wells PLEASE provide me with the information I need to start my looking for the 7" wheels I need. Also, what should I be asking for the Deep 6 wheels.

There are a number of issues in the fitment of 7 x 15 wheels to a long hood car. Most notably is the backspacing to get the rears to fit without rubbing.
So if you want to go 7 x15, you will need to flare your rears or find a tire that does not rub or make some radical alignment changes or some (or all) of the above. Porsche's original solution was the 7 x 15 R wheels which are rare and very expensive. This Web Page details some of the info you need: http://members.rennlist.com/911pcars/WheelWts.html

I had a 72 and any of the 7x15 cookie cutters or Fuchs (there is an "s" on it) should fit with up to a 225/50/15. I had a fair amount of neg camber and rolled fenders and no issues with fit.

when the factory was building n/b race cars rgere was a 7x15 911R wheel that had ET49 but they also used 17mm spacers so the net was ET32, they were able to use 225/50 tires on these wheels w/ lots of neg camber and shaved trailing arm bolts

I currently have 7x15 with 205/60 tires on the back of my 73 (a T with a 3.2) but find it looks a little overstuffed.
So I bought a set of flat six fuchs (date code correct) and I'm have 2 welded up into 7R offset and then the full set refinished by Al Reed. I can't wait, IMO they are the ultimate wheelset for a 'post-deep-six' later longhood hot rod and not crazy expensive (about the cost of one real 7R) Last edited by healeykit; 08-29-2009 at 06:15 PM.. |

Forget the 7R. They are almost imposable to find.
Virtually all the 7" Fuchs are the same back space and will work w 205's and usally w 225's with neg camber and sometimes rolled fenders. There are some 7x16's from a 944 have more brake room but are still the same back space. Here is a lot of Fuchs wheel info. http://members.rennlist.com/911pcars/WheelWts.html |

It's ALWAYS Fuchs. Never Fuch.
Fuchs is 'Fox' in German. Spelling it Fuch is like spelling Fox as Fo. I had 4 7X15's on my '73.5 and thought the fronts looked too big; too fat. Last edited by tcar; 08-30-2009 at 09:20 AM.. |
