CIS hose questions

Hi:

Hoping some CIS expert, or someone who has a CIS on their car can anser these two simple questions.

I'm going to install this used CIS engine, but there were a couple of hoses missing.

The first picture shows a vacuum connector with three hoses, but the forth is missing. I've looked all over the engine but can't find an unconnected vacuum connection. Any suggestions?

The second picture shows a hose connector coming out of the CIS airbox, but not sure what it should connect to (seems like it would be an oil breather, but not sure where that would come from either). Also indicated is an apparent hose connector nearby, but on the air shroud. Should these two be connected?

Appreciate your help!

Kevin

input

James:

Thanks for the input... this is a 2.4L from a 73. Don't think they had cruise control or power brakes.

But... as I was poking around the technical section, it seems that the two open ports (air shroud and air intake) are for the fuel charcoal canister hook up. Anyone second that?

The second picture has two connections circled. The lower one on the engine shroud goes to your oil charcoal canister on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

The circled area in the first image (a four-barb "hose tee") is not a vacuum line connection. The lines contain lower pressure fuel being returned forward to the fuel tank. There should be a fabric covered rubber "vacuum/fuel" hose from the open barb to the return line on the driver's side of the engine compartment. In the second image there should be a fabric covered rubber "vacuum/fuel" hose connected to the lower fitting in the fan shroud; this hose provides pressurized air from the fan. This air travels through the missing hose to a fixed metal line that runs forward through the center tunnel. At the forward end of the tunnel the air enters back into another fabric covered rubber "vacuum/fuel" hose and then goes to the charcoal fuel vapor storage activated carbon canister located on the floor of trunk on the driver's side near the fuse panel. The air passes through the canister, sweeps out fuel vapors and returns through a second series of hose - metal tube - hose to the upper fitting (on the air box) in the second image where they are inducted into the engine and burned. Note that there should be a small fabric covered "fuel/vacuum" hose from the fuel tank vapor recovery system bottle (under the driver's side fender) to a small barb on the the activated carbon canister. You may find the three missing hoses (one fuel and two air) in the engine compartment (provided the car is a 73.5 T). Below is an image of my son's restored/rebuilt 1973.5 T CIS engine. One can see the black fabric covered rubber "fuel/vacuum" line that leaves the four-barbed "hose tee" and connects to the body mounted fuel return line. The fuel vapor intake barb on the air box is covered with aluminum foil.

thanks

Jim

Thanks for the clarifications. I've got it now and should be able to get it going.

As a side note, check that double-tee. Mine was exceptionally old/brittle and one of the nipples cracked off with hardly any effort. They are naturally "NLA" - you'll need to rig up a replacement using brass tees. Or if anyone knows of another way, I'd love to hear about it. Sorry for the hijack, just figured I'd add some (potentially useful) information. Best of luck with your fix-up.
