I really dig the old school look of the white raised letter tires... they must have been tough to find. I'm going to go way off the beaten path and polish my 6 & 7" cookies with 205/55's & 225/50's. I figure, why get 7's and 8's only to put the same width tires on them. My chosen size will give the car a bit more torque to boot... I just hope they don't look too small. :)

Actually I just cleaned up the sidewalls then took my trusty modelmaking paintbrush and delicately painted the lettering with KILZ interior/exterior primer. I just like the look of painted sidewall lettering. Must be the shameless cafe racer in me I guess.

Silly question... is the striker plate upside down? As in this one goes on the other side? My 911 did not have them, though I have since purchased a set, I am now not sure which way they go on.

Good sound is a relative thing. In a 911 with little to no soundproofing, lightweight carpet, no cat and a 2-in 2-out muffler there is no point in aiming for audiophile quality sound. I will be happy if it produces pleasant noise. :) The interior door panels are not installed yet so I cannot tell you whether this will work or not but here is my plan. I bought new door cards from AppBiz. The cards have been cut away around the mass/mid and tweeter as the drivers have been secured to the metal interior panel of each door. I bought some auto upholstery cloth that will cover the door cards. The material is not very thick and I expect it will not have any significant impact on the sound. From my experience with various speakers and grill types perhaps the tweeters will be a little dulled but this should be easily cured with tweaking the treble on the head unit. The thickness of the door cards are just about equal to the edge thickness of the bass/mid driver so the drivers should not be visible behind the cloth. I should be able to tell you more about the sound quality next week as the car is very close to being back on the road.

True but I don't think it will look so much like a rally car once it has been moved. I intend to drive it around a bit, install a lightweight battery then take it to Rennsport for corner balancing and ride height adjustment.

Thanks for all of the kind words. The interior made some progress this week. I was hoping it would all be done before Christmas but that wasn't to be. I chose the domestic carpet with a shorter pile than the original sliver knit and it is very light. I was tempted to go for the perlon carpet but I like the blacker black of this type. It is a semi-RS style with no rear seats but I will still have the rear parcel shelf and rear quarter panels.

Interior pics
The interior is mostly done at this point. I did not want rear seats but at the same time I wanted something more visually interesting than the RS carpet set. What I ended up with is a blend of a '74 interior but with carpet covering the rear seat area. After having a spare parcel shelf recovered we found that I must have purchased one from a Targa as after installing it was an inch short on either side which exposed the foil of the soundproofing pad underneath. Fortunately Rick from American Auto Trim in Tulsa came to the rescue and fabricated a new parcel shelf and the end result I think is even nicer than what we started with. Houndstooth material was sourced from Stefan at GTS Classics in Austin. Not quite the OEM pattern but closer than any other material that I looked at and it blends nicely with the black vinyl on the pillars and the cream headliner.

I kept the SC door handles and lids but replaced the pockets with a set of fiberglass reproductions off eBay. Warning - the fit on these was very awful and required much massaging after warming with a heat gun to make them work. Since this is primarily a street car I wanted to keep the door pockets as I find them very hand to stick things in that are easy to get at while driving. Door openers are also from eBay that I just thought looked pretty neat as it will match the single "911" badge that will be on the rear decklid.
