Very cool. I have been trying to convince myself for about 2 years now to do this with Pasha fabric on my 83. How bad/good was the carpet install?

Sitting in the car surrounded by pasha could be a mind altering experience :) I think it would look very cool. I have never priced pasha but if it is anything like the OEM houndstooth it would not be cheap to do as you will need 3 yards of fabric to do the doors, quarter panels and rear parcel shelf. I wimped out and had the carpet professionally installed. I concluded that having it done right was worth it compared to me messing it up and having to see that every time I got in the car.

If you don't mind sharing, would you tell me what the cost was on the labor for the install? You can PM if you'd prefer. I just want something to compare to. My local shop tends to be pretty expensive on this type of stuff for some reason. They wanted almost $500 more to do my convertible top than the guy out there in Tulsa charges (Tom someone I think and American something - can't think of the name).

On the Pasha, yeah a bit $$$$. I was just going to do the door panels, plus the rear panels, and the front and rear seat inserts if that makes sense (like the factory). My car is a cabriolet, so I do not have to worry about the rear deck, or even the side panels in the rear for that manner. But I would like to do something different back there than the carpet, so I was planning on using leather to recover the panels and the back "deck" area. Thanks for making me think about this again!:p

Not to hijack, but Shane...do you have a source for Pascha? Buddy needs just enough to do one seat panel. And if you need authentic brown german vinyl of that era, he has a large quantity...ordered 3 yards and was inadvertently sent 30 yards:eek:

Just curious how your car is coming along. Your car is one of a couple that I'm using for inspiration. From the last few posts it looked like you were getting close to finishing up. I can't wait to see how the bumper recession looks.

Fantastic color and interior trim combo. The color reminds me of a new '70 "grabber blue" Boss 302 Mustang I begged a salesman to "save" for me (I was 7 years old at the time), while my dad looked at a Bronco on the new car lot. I also begged my dad to buy a Pantera as well 4 years later, but he ended up with a 460 Lincoln for $6k (oil crisis giveaway price).

I may have to "be on the look out" for one of those run down SC's that pop up every once in a while for around 5k and build a similar version. Keep us updated!

OK finally got some time to take some pics. Sorry about the grainy images. The late afternoon sun was playing havoc with the digi camera I was using. Pretty much all done at this point - just relocated horns to driver side wheel well and installed a horn button on the prototipo. I have a strut brace to install, Seine shifter kit and Odyssey battery to go in also but this does not stop me enjoying the car as is. I took the car for its first open road drive the other weekend and it was magic. Arrow blue is just the best color in weak winter light. It looks almost backlit :-)

Thanks man. It is a pity the pictures aren't better. In real life the paintwork is just beautiful. This was not a blank-check build but I have ended up with exactly the 911 I wanted, from the exterior color selected by poring over 30 years of production color charts, to the houndstooth interior and down to the finest of details. Sort of a retro cafe racer without the expense and potential complications of a backdate. It has been a really fun project and I hope others are encouraged to do the same.

What size is your Prototipo? Your car looks great, I bet your very happy to be driving her finally!

It does look extremely nice. My only complaint is that the rear bumper is tucked in a little too much. Besides that, it's awesome.

Perhaps you could tilt the stereo 'down' a bit (get the upper half of the stereo out a bit from the dash), so that the drawer clears the knobs? Problem is the face of the stereo won't be flush with the dash, but at least you'd have a working CD player.

Nonetheless, an inspiring build! I absolutely love to be able to see the oil lines running to the front cooler.

Unfortunately there is no room to change the angle of the unit. A change to the aftermarket stainless knobs that don't have the fluting of the stock rubber ones might just give enough clearance so at some point I may try that. In the meantime I bought some cables to connect an MP3 player so I will probably just use that instead of playing CD's.

Yeah I like the exposed oil lines too. I first saw these on the blue long hood hot rod (Chris Nielson's I believe) that is on another thread and thought they looked awesome. The stock lines clean up pretty easy with some steel wool and a little paint thinner.

Earlier in the thread someone asked about how the stereo sounded with speakers mounted behind the door cards. The sound is just fine. he CDR220 gives quite respectable sound even without an external amp. I tweaked the treble just a touch but other than that you could not tell the speakers were behind cloth. Of course if you are using vinyl or leather on the door cards you would need to perforate them like the factory did.

Thanks for the compliment. The wheel is actually a 370mm Prototipo replica that I bought from a guy on the Early S Register. He has them manufactured in batches in Italy I beleive. The extra diameter works great for low speed steering weight and does not hide the instruments the way a 350mm does.
