Need part number?
I looked through the entire online pdf parts catalog but couldn't find the part number for the rubber grommet that seals the hole in the body where the DME wiring harness passes into the car from behind the drivers seat. Does anyone know what part number this is?

It might be part of the wiring harness itself. I had a similar issue with the grommet that holds the rear brake ABS wiring to the lower chassis. The good news is that a wiring harness of almost any year/model will work.

DOes anyone have there engine out with wiring harness, or could someone confirm for me the diameter, inner/outer of the grommet used.. I guess I could try mcmaster-carr or someone and see if I can't something up that might do the job.

Can do but not sure yet which one you talking about... Here is a pic with the engine on the wall with the wire harness fitted. None of these wires go back directly to the cabin. Let me know what you want me to do a close up/measured. JJ ![]()

Hi JJ,
THe part I am interested sits around your main wiring harness that goes to your DME. The cable passes through the firewall below the rear seats. It is at that point where there is a grommet to seal the hole and let the cable through. From what I am being told, some people feel it might be part of the DME cable harness (although my engine didn't come with it).

Like I mentioned, none of the cables on the engine harness goes through the fire wall but the large connector (14 pins) hanging down by 17mm wrench (2nd from the left) in the photo in post 8, does connect to another harness. Tomorrow after work, I'll take photos of the wire going though the fire wall. Should be posted by 19:00. Bonne nuit JJ

With the engine out, the harness is disconnected from the 14 pin connector above the firewall, so looking at the engine (half of the) harness won't help. You want the half that remains in the car.
I agree that the PET doesn't show enough detail. You want someone with the engine out to look on their firewall, correct? (someone posted while I typed - there ya go)

Here are the photos. All taken from the engine bay looking forward. On the first one, the biggest opening is where the shifter engage the transmission. On the second one, its probably the plug you are referring to. Keep in mind that my car is conversion to a 3.2 and it lookalike that the plug was not fitted from the inside. If you can picture it, this plug would be perfect if it was in the cabin. The last one is another plug for another wire going in. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yes thats the part I'm looking for. I thought it went through the driver side not the passengers. Anyway is there anyway you can measure the inner and outer diamater of the part for me. I'm guessing there won't be a part number stamped on the rubber but maybe you could double check that as well. Thanks again for all this!

Almost forgot... I took 5 measurements. It my be hard to visualize but if you look at the photo, they are almost "natural". I'll post a photo identifying those measurements tomorrow with a profile of the plug. # 1 - DME wiring harness; 23mm # 2 - The sleve on the plug; 32mm # 3 - The start of the inner plug; 40mm # 4- Just before the groove (small black band); 53mm # 5 - The outer flap; 64mm The groove, just after #4, is about 3mm deep, which would make the hole in the fire wall 50mm If you make your own plug, the important measurement are #1 and the size of the hole in the fire wall. Why not try a local auto electrician or maybe a smash repairer they are liable to have an assortment of the plug that you are looking for jmo.

There you go. If you are not worry about the look, get a 50mm (or slightly larger), drill it to 23mm (or slightly smaller), slipt it in the hole and silicon bead on both side. If I can re-route the other cable, I'll slide my plug in the hole. JJ ![]()

Hi JJ,
I really appreciate you going to all the effor tto help me out. This forum rocks! Quick clarification. Wouldn't the size of the hole be 47mm because you were providing me the diameter of the whole, so you need to take 3mm off each side? I measured the hole that I drilled on my car (for my 3.2 conversion), and it appears to be around 2.25 inchs (57mm). I believe this is the most important measurement. I then used an inner diameter of .0625 inch (1.59mm) for the width of the groove which should give me a good tight fit. I was left with this grommet at this site: Marco-Rubber It seems to be about the right ID to allow me to get the DME connector through with still a decent fit. I guess if I dont' hear back from this company (as I only want to buy one) I will just go to home depot and find a generic grommet that I can drill into. Once again, thanks for all your help on this. I will post pictures of the fix for completion of the thread.

Yes, 47mm it would be... 53 - (2x3mm)
Measurment 3 to 5 and the groved were rather hard to get (hard to fit the caliper) so I can not gargarente that they are right one, probably within 1mm. I'll see if I can measure the actual hole. The Marco stuff would work nicely. If not I would check Lowes (if you got one) before Home Depot. At Lowes, I was able to find S washer in all the metric size.
