targa bar

I have a 1976 carrera targa 3.0 row, the car is black. What color or gloss should the targa bar be? flat black, semi gloss black, stainless? any thoughts?

It depends;

Do you have black or Alu trim? What color are your rims, headlight rings etc.?

My thoughts are that if you have alu (silver) trim on a black car then the brushed stainless look may be best.

But if you have the entire car blacked out then a black semi gloss would look best.

If you have a a maroon interior the brushed stainless for sure would be best.

It would be much easier to give an opinion based upon a better description or post a photo of your car.

Mid-year Carrera trim is typically black.

Satin Black (Rust-Oleum 7777 Satin Black is a perfect match).

If the car is supposed to have a black bar and not a stainless bar from the factory, that works.

A lot of (most) mid-year cars had stainless, but if the 3.0's had black, do the satin.

i have a 78

mocha brown with cork interior

all the trim is silver

po re-painted the car and had the hoop painted to match.

This weekend i just switched it back to stock and like the stainless look better. matches nicely with the window trim, door handles ect.

I read somewhere that all hoops were stainless till late 78-79 when porsche started to do the black anodize on the trim pieces as option. This was a custom order option then became the standard.

just what i have heard. some call it here-say

ill post my before and after and try to get you some better shots tomorrow

My understanding is a match to the original targa bar black is a special order PPG single stage texture - semi-gloss black. Don't have the paint code, just recall that it was not available in a spray can and produced a slight texture.

Stainless. Always stainless. That is the only answer. Those blacked out ones look way too "try hard."

IMHO stainless looks best...but would keep the Carrera stock...which, AFAIK is always black unless some sort of special order.
