Ive been using 409 as the cleaner solution because the original K N sol smelled just like 409 to me. Still follow the instructions however, i.e. to only soak the outside of the filter while the solution is in a shallow pan, 1/4 " deep, when I lift the filter from the sol I can see the dirt fall away, then rinse from the inside out, dry and oil.

BTW just to add more hardware options, I recently ran across this Timmons Billet site.

Porsche

You can get some fancy brushed aluminum cover plates from them. A friend lives in Wichita and says Timmons is legit. Been in the racing business for many years and still around.

I believe these foam filters are available from GCA Industries (True Flow) in Scottsdale AZ.

Can these still be purchased?

Thanks

ITG is a good choice.

Thanks Richard. I will see if they have the oval version for the early filters as above.

Cheers,

Has anyone successfully used a stock 70's style filter housing with PMO's?

You mean like this? Stock factory airbox with custom base plates for PMO 46's welded into the lower sections that attach to the carbs. I run a K&N filter in my housing and cut off the snorkel for better airflow.

back about 20 years ago, I used to run a 4 barrel paper filter element that I reshaped to fit the weber bases.

Trog - very nice! I have plans for that in my future. I want to go to EFI ITB's, but use them with the old airbox. Easy to do with the PMO ITB's.

Thanks Brooke!

Can the existing bases be modified on a drill press vs welding? I'm at Parade so I can't get my eyes on this and I'm looking for options for my mechanic.

Eric,
AFAIK, the bases for Webers (maybe Solexes too) have the same screw hole pattern to the carb top (same as the velocity stack mounts). However, the lower "bathtub" portion of the AF housings are different and must be used with the correct upper section. The shapes are slightly different with clips in different locations. IOW, top and bottom portions must be compatible.

The Fabspeed airbox cover (painted satin black) is a nicer/quieter alternative than just cutting the snorkel too...

Frankly I do not know if you can just cut a few more holes in the bottom of the weber "bath tubs" to get them to bolt up to PMO's. I didn't try that.

Hmmmm. I'll have to give that a try to see how it compares to my snorklectomy.
