One More Noob

I've posted on a topic or two (and I've used the Pelican board re BMW motorcycles for the past year or two), but thought I should introduce. This new-to-me 85 Targa has been fantastic during my first month of ownership. Keeps me grinning nonstop. My two daughters (6 & 4) love it - they call it the "Vroom Vroom" and my wife loves it for date nights. I use it as for a daily driver and weekend pleasure drives in West Marin.

From the get-go I knew I would name the car "Disco:"

And, of course, I've found the site and members to be incredibly helpful!

Shiny side up, (wait, that's only good in the MC boards)

Nate

Lovely car!

(you should get the rubber lip for the front, it makes the picture complete)

Welcome

Also, noticeably different handling characteristics without the chin spoiler in front. Do no add a tail until you add th chin spoiler.

Great looking Targa!

Drop the "disco" name it died in the 70's, your car is an '85 and NEVER put a tail on a Targa.

That's a fine looking motor vehicle. Are those sport seats?

Welcome to the Forum
You will find a lot of help here.

I agree with “Disco” if you like it.

Yes, a chin will help (even with my lame ‘eye’),
So would a set of 7x16 and 8x16 either matching, black, silver or what you like. Well … day-glo blood-orange might get unwanted attention.

A pair of H1s with painted rims would be stunning. Relays and high power bulbs to match.

While Targas typically aren’t racers, yours will benefit from slight suspension changes; slightly stiffer springs (torsion bars) and lower setting. This will let it sit at an appropriate height yet not get on the rubber stops with four people.

With a low mileage 911, what are the date codes on the tires? If even 6-years old, I recommend new. I just changed out perfectly good looking Michelin Pilot Sports for the ‘2” version due to age.

You are now the responsible caretaker of a fine 911. Stand up to that with proper maintenance. I suspect you will find issues from dis-use. ‘Garage Queens’ put back in service will need some issues attended to. When necessary, fix everything appropriate and you will have a great member of the family for decades.

Congratulations.

Best,
Grady

Pardon my presumptiveness.

Sweet car...is that your garage? Like the drawing work there...did you do that yourself? More pics of the garage please if you have them.

Yep, those are sport seats...very comfy. You already have 7x16" Fuchs in the rear...move those up front and you only have to buy a pair of 8 or 9x16" Fuchs for the rear. I like the color matched centers...likely came that way from the factory.

Enjoy it and welcome to the forum!

No - it's at a dealer in the SF Bay Area. This was a personal car of one of the guys that works there. They photo all their cars in this to great effect. One of my favorite shots was of a 66 (I think) Testarossa in that spot. Really looked wicked.

Thanks to all for the compliments and suggestions. No tail for me, will have to look at what the chin spoiler looks like. There is certainly some, but not too much, catch-up to do. But it's my driver - I'm willing to put more time/effort into keeping it mechanically sound than into dressing it up any more than it already is. As they say, KISS, and I'm the "stupid" in the acronym.

White Gold Metallic over Burgundy leather, right?

Same color combo as my '86 and I hope you're enjoying the Sport Seats. I love 'em.

Enjoy driving it in a year-round climate! As a former Mill Valley resident, I know how nice the roads are out there.

Plate in the boot says "Weiss Gold" - I'm no German scholar, but I take it that's White Gold?

The interior is brown rather than burgundy. Here's a closer shot of the seats:

I've done some research through a Pelican Member with a Porsche interior sample book and he thinks it's Cadbury Brown or, less likely, Wild Buffalo. If I want to be sure, I'll have to order a Certificate of Authenticity. If anyone has any other ideas, I'm all ears!

And the Sport Seats are absolutely fantastic - now when I'm in the late model family Acura, I feel completely unsupported!

I don't usually like Targas but yours is stunning. Not sure if it's the color combo, no whale tail/tea tray, or what. Beautiful! And welcome!

Stunning looking car. IMO, unless you put a rear spoiler on it, the front chin spoiler looks out of place. I say keep it just like it is.

I hope you don't have a BIG GOLD necklace accessorizing around your porsche's color, with matching cufflinks... Just ribbing ya'! The car looks elegant and almost brand new.
Enjoy the corners...

Beautiful car. Only thing I'd do is the color matched headlight rings per Grady's post. And drive it a lot.
