911e back to the streets??

I purchased this car and am going to try to get back to the streets as a nice daily driver within a month.

My mechanic cooter is tearing down the engine to see what is the major issues. I got ahold of the seller before who had the car before the 5 year vacation in someones back yard. He said it was running fine and parked because of oil leak. He bought new oil tubes and left them in front seat. That is where they were i got the car 5 years later. The fly wheel turns but started wouldnt move..

No rust.

Items needed

Seats
Chrome trim all grilles and chrome trim around the lights
found halogen lights in trunk maybe some sort of conversion there.

Heres what i have to work with and yes i have no idea what i am getting into..

Excited now but maybe in for shock soon.....

Congrats! The E is a great high point in the 911 history.

Well you said the engine is out, so Ill leave that part out of the basic comments. I imagine the fuel system, and esp the MFI pump will need attention to remove crap and possible gummed up fuel/deposits. And all fluids, like trans, brakes, etc will need flushing, (be careful of the brake master cylinder, it could have rusty bores...I'd replace at the first sign of funny business there.) And the brake discs are possible candidates for replacement due to age, wear, rust, or all of the above. And the calipers might need a rebuild too..inspect carefully.

Check the body for rust, esp in the rockers, the front suspension pan (near the pickups esp) and the batt boxes.

Also, the pedal bushings might need lubrication, and take a good look at the accel pedal linkage. The rubber connection is a classic failure point. Also, look at he clutch system while it's open.

Not sure what to tell you about the AC system.

Seems pretty clean. Be sure to get a factory exhaust for it so it doesn't look so bad. The factory one will fit the back of the car better, probably light, sound better, and utilize that notch in the bumper for the tip to exit.

The engine shouldn't be too hard if it ran before, 5 years isn't too bad. It will mainly be lots of fuel system work.

I hate to disagree with the previous post, but I had two long noses, a '68 and a'72 that had the same "Ansa" exhaust. I liked the sound and the look of the exhaust, even with it not lining up with the "notch". The exhaust note under full throttle was great!

I have another longnose, a '70 911 T with a similar setup, although this one was modified to go through matching "nitches" on each side.

Each to his own....Have fun with your car!

A few more pics. If anyone has period correct seats and chrome trim please email me.

The dash has a tan basket weave(wood grain). The rest are all a black/grey. Like the black/grey better. Is that a dash replacement or is that a sticker that can come off or go over??

Pic from the paint shop. Almost done Engine rebuilt. New lots of stuff. Slate grey with new H4s. Steelies coming and duck tail on the narrow bodied might not get the purist vote. I have a double light blue stripe going to the the middle offset to the right. Steelies will be blacked out. I have a vision in my head. Worried about how it will turn out. don

Of course my month to do it turned into a year and a half.

Recent pics. Here is my question. I am getting ready to order the porsche script from bob tilton in light blue and run a single light blue stripe (left center) down the car.

Too much?

Bob is recomending silver script. I believe that is from his days as tv avangelist keeping him conservative.

Paint looks better than in pics.

Seal kit and new headliner next week. Project was supposed to be a couple of months. Year and half later still have alot to do over winter.

Engine done. Kept the orginal deck lid and had painter so i could put on. Also scored steelies widened in the rear and having powder coated right now black. I will be able to change wheels and deck lid when desired.

Thanks.

Looks good Don! I personally think the silver on Slate would look fantastic - but I do like subtle.

maybe Navy blue instead of light blue?

Wow, I don't think I would change a thing, that looks great!
I really like the clean look you have going with no script, stripes or hood badge.

Great to see someone rescue a 911E, a vastly under-rated car. Sure miss my old 2.2 E! You'll have great fun driving it.

Why not forget the stripe and make it a really subtle look? A sleeper...

I think if you decide to go with any striping, that the script should match.

The exhaust is really holding you back on this car. You've done a beautiful job up to this point. That Anza (or Monza) is kinda like a moustache on the Mona Lisa.

agree please remove that exhaust , or have someone photoshop it off , looks like a roid ready to burst...

But that is a beautiful car you have done splendid on that car , don't mean to be harsh on exhaust but it look way out of place...

great car ...

Blue? That's one of those, "I'll have to see it before I 'get it'" combos. I can't wrap my brain around it. Silver? oh yea... Red... Sure! Maybe even a light grey or black. But blue? Not my first choice, sorry!

Thanks guys. Maybe one of the photo shop gurus that frequent this site will come across my thread.

Exhaust I actually didnt hate it but being able to drive it lately (finally) it doesnt have a sound that is aggressive. Its very passive. Especially with the rest of the things i drive its almost silent. Its added to my list. I think i have been peer pressured into that but is been on my one minute ok.. one minute not list.

Thanks to all. This forum is a wealth of knowledge.

Stripe colors

Pastel or Glacier Blue might just work; Gulf Blue might be too light. One of the oranges (Signal, Blood) might work too; just a little something to make it stand out since you look to be going down the hot rod route. I like Slate Gray on a longhood but it's starting to become a bit more common as more people dream they are Steve McQueen.
