FWIW,
The aviation world has been battling corrosion since planes began being made from metal instead of wood(termites). ACF-50, Corrosion X, and a few more are around. If the car is stored anywhere but the Mojave desert, corrosion is gonna be an issue. I think AAA classifies an area within 200 miles of a large body of water a hostile environment.

With the ads of 30 - 40 yr old porsches offered for sale that sit in less than ideal climates...with little protection - I'm curious if a borescope could ever be used before signing a check over to the p.o. ?

I'm keen on older cars - but unfortunately have come within a heartbeat of being swayed on a few occasions by a fondness for nice appearing rustbuckets - unwittingly.

There are threads we've all seen where someone's luck fell short - and then much help is offered for them to learn cutting welding and fabbing skills etc.

Worse...there are literally dozens of hidden corrosion areas on these cars if i'm not mistaken.

No one's going to do a colonoscopy joke? Okay, two polyps walk into a bar and....

I found similar carnage when I replaced the suspension pan on my '66. The only outward signs of trouble were some tiny pin holes in the bottom of the pan outboard of the t-bar mounts. I mean, these were tiny tiny pin holes that you could barely see. They appeared only after some pounding in that area during a suspension refresh and the only reason I noticed anything was amiss were the tiny trails of rust dust falling out of the holes. It's scary, what's lurking a mm out of sight.

Just the pan....and everything else is solid ? You're fortunate...sounds like the rest of the car is clean.
