No ignition after rain
I live in rainy country (Victoria, BC, kind of like Seattle). After a recent rain, the 1971 911T won't start. Starter works, fuel pumps whirs, dash lights, but seemingly not one bit of spark. The engine gets so wet through the rear deck lid grille it just seems like a ridiculous idea to try to drive this, but... it's my new (and only) car...
What is the sort of "working backward" procedure to find where the electricity flow is stopping? This car has a lot of electronics on the left side of the engine compartment I don't know enough about... Thanks. |

It might be a simple thing, check inside the distributor cap and see how wet that is, moisture will condense inside the cap. If you haven't checked that already.

Spray WD-40 on all the ignition wires, and coil wires and dry the inside of the cap.

check inside the distributor cap. happened to me once that the cap was not on exactly right and water could get in there.

Replace the distributor cap, it's probably got a crack in it (mine did).

every one calls out the dizzy.
my 20 yr old Ignition wires were dry rotted and cracked (just enough to let water in) How old are your wires? WD is a temporary fix.

Ignition cap and cables, the Achilles' heel of all 911s that have them.

The distributor cap got wet on mine and i had to get my car towed to a shop and spent all day checking spark, fuel pressure, compression and a few minor things, only to realize that taking off to screws and wiping down the distributor got the car started......it was a crap day
