New member introduction
Hello all,
I am new here. This board has provided me with an incredible amount of information so far. I have posted in a few threads, but thought I would formally introduce myself. In July '09 I purchased from my father my first 911. The car is an '89 911 Carrera Silver Anniversary Edition that my father purchased new in January 1990. I got it from him with 34,200 miles, a mouse infested trunk, eaten and soiled trunk carpet, minor corrosion under the battery, corrosion at the gas tank seam, and a dent in the driver side rear quarter. I had the gas tank removed, stripped, and had it and the trunk restored to like new with new carpet. I had the dent removed and had Getty Design RUF CTR replica bumpers installed (completely reversible). I also had it serviced and lowered. The car currently rides on the stock 16x6 and 16x8 Fuchs. I have a pair of 16x7's for the front that are currently being color matched. I also purchased a used set of 16" BBS RS that I plan on having enlarged to 17x7 and 17x9 to switch it up once in a while. I am an architect living with my wife north of Boston. I spent a few years in construction management and now am starting my own architecture practice. Thank you for taking the time to check out my thread. Best regards, Anuraj The car as I received it: ![]() That is my father in the photo. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As it sits today: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Anuraj,
Welcome to the Forum ![]() You will find a lot of help here. Great 911 and great story. I wish I had kept my dad’s two 912s – The ’66 S/R was Factory Tourist Delivery and the ’67 soft window Targa I built for him in ’76 with ‘all the right stuff’ from a 1500 mi. ‘barn find’ by Chuck ********. If there ever was a 912S, that one was very close. You have a life-long maintenance responsibility and perhaps your son or daughter will be the next caretaker. Mine, that I Special Ordered from Porsche KG in late ’67, will be enjoyed by and the responsibility of my son (now 24). Congratulations on your new practice and best of luck for a successful career. Google my name and find my dad (mid-‘90s and still going strong) a long time AIA & ASLA member. Best, Grady

Thanks for the welcome guys.
Grady, I will definitely work hard to maintain this car and hope to pass it on to the next generation (my E30 BMW also). Exciting Porsches in your past and present. I looked up your father and will have to read his work. My wife is actually a landscape architect, so I am sure she will enjoy his work as well. Thank you for the congratulations. It is definitely an exciting career move for me. Best, Anuraj |

Thank you everybody for the compliments.
The E30 M3 was mine. I sold it when I got the 911. It was a bit too heavily modified for my taste. It was also a high mileage northeast car. I agree that it is the only true M3 and hope to get a nice example someday. I still own the E30 convertible seen in one of the photos. I've owned it from new, and it has about 44,000 miles on it. I guess not driving these cars during the long New England winters has its advantages. |

That looks great. Did you do the bumper conversion yourself? If so / or not what were the costs and time involved? Also, what suspension mods did you do and what is the height from ground to top of fender arch?

Love you car
![]() Quote:
The front was asymmetric by about 1/2" and the lights sat neither flush to the bumper nor equal to one another. The turn signals still are not quite as I would like them. The front grill had to be fabricated from a Carrera deck lid grill. I still need to get a lip fabricated under the front bumper and try a more minimal seal where the bumper meets the fenders. The shop used seals from a long hood. Others used 930 welting that looks much better in my opinion. I wasn't pleased with the lines of the rear bumper at the wheel wells, so I had them cut up and rebuilt to better flow with the lines of the Carrera flares. I had a lot of other work done at the same time, so it is tough to isolate the actual cost of the conversion. I would have to look back at my receipts, and you know I don't want to revisit those ![]() The suspension is stock. I consulted with Chuck at Elephant Racing, and he suggested 24.75" front and 24.25" rear as the lowest I should go on stock suspension to keep acceptable suspension geometry. I had the torsion bars re-indexed to get that height. |

Darn nice looking 911 there, my friend. The story behind it is even better.
Welcome to the zoo. ![]()

Welcome Anuraj, many people look for a clean, well cared for, one owner car. It sounds like you didn't have to look too hard for yours. I really love the silver 911s. I'm also partial to the Ruf style bumpers. Your car is a beauty.

Well my front bumpers just got hit when a woman backed up her SUV at the toll booth this morning... Not too much damage but might be an excuse to upgrade to either RUF or IROC bumpers.... lol
