Torn out front torsion bar mount: any good fixes?
On a recent inspection of my 911 race car, I found some ugly damage: a torn front torsion bar mount. I believe this was not the result of rust, as the front pan has been replaced, but due to towing using axle straps around the front A-arms.
So what is the fix for this? Do I need to replace the whole front pan? Or is there a good way to repair only the front torsion bar mount? Thanks in advance for any help! -Juan ![]()

I would replace the entire front pan.

Almost Banned Once

I can see the logic in your post but the thread link posted above looks like a good way to repair this kind of damage.
To "logician"... But I can see some rust in the damaged area that would have me worried. I know this pan has been replaced but it it possible it's been compromised again? Hope it works out for the best.

Could it be from a binding poly-bushing?

Looks exactly like mine which was caused by binding poly bushings. I bet they were squeaking first. If they are binding, re-lube or use elephants.
I rewelded mine. Inspect the other side as it may have small cracks also.

It is hard to tell from your photo but did your pan replacement have the doubler installed. It is not sold with the pan and must be ordered separately. If it was not installed I would recommend replacing the pan and installing the doubler.

From my experience with a replacement pan, these parts are just tacked in place and need to be finish welded when the pan is installed. And of course there is always the possibility the extra supports required on the top were not put in. These should have kept it from ripping completely out, even if the bottom welds failed.

hello there
by the looks of the damaged area it appears to have been broken for awhile. as i see no fresh metal. the area above the arm looks like there is an impression where the mount and bushing have just been sitting there waiting for a large bump or a hard stop to finally pop out. That being said i would want to grind clean all surrounding areas and look for stress cracks as it appears it was a break caused by flexing maybe from trailer rides with the straps tugging at it. at this point assume the other side is compromised as well. what ever you decide to do I.E. beefing up the mounts, i would do the same to the other side as well. good luck glad to see you made it out in good health. cheers ed
