About 20 years of hype ...
Dansk is an OEM supplier to Porsche AG, so they know what they are doing ... and if my dual-outlet muffler is any example of their current workmanship, I would say they are doing an exellent job! Here is what my new muffler looks like: ![]() SSI is on the verge of abandoning the 911 market, and may not make another batch, or so it has been reported!

Adam, don't count on it
One difference would be that SSI's are true equal-length headers, whereas the Dansk are "almost" equal-length; they are exact copies of stock '74 H.E. from what I have heard. Also, Dansk has never been an OEM supplier of anything for Porsche 911- they made the H.E. for early 914-4cyl. and therefore earned the right to call themselves an "OEM supplier to Porsche(VW type 4)" for perpetuity. Other than that, they seem OK, decent value for the $, I plan on buying their muffler for my SSI's on the SC.

Yep...what Dennis said is correct.
SSI's are true equal-length, Dansk is just a stainless version of the pre-74 stock exchangers. Is this worth $75.00 more power? Hmmmm. I have SSI's and the Dansk dual-in, dual-out muffler. Love its sound and look. See a pic at the link in my signature. Nick.

How much more power is $75 (each, $150!).
Engine will be a 3.0RS spec - S cams and 9.5 c/r. Inlet is electronic injected throttle bodies. Do the SSIs have a larger pipe diameter? By the way, that muffler of Warren's looks kickass. Too bad I will be teaming them up to my (new) boring standard muffler replica. Thanks again. Cam

SSI's are the best for quality and are true equal length extractors. Don't know where you get your info out there in the bushes Warren, but the last time I talked to John Daniels at Stainless Steel Inc, he was talking about a project for the new cars and was staying very busy with current production items.

Actually, I think it was me that made the post refered to, but what I said was that "he wasn't sure WHEN he was going to make another batch", and that the market had slowed considerably for this product due to saturation. He said nothing about abandoning 911 market. He has already made the big investment in tooling and design, so it would not make sense to stop making them completely. They still sell fairly well through countless outlets, just not like the old days.
SSI's may not be perfect, (small install hassles sometimes), but are one of the best aftermarket products ever offered for 911's. Also they are made out of the good stainless that lasts FOREVER, Dansk are not. Not trying to knock Dansk- you get what you pay for- but lets not confuse Dansk mufflers with the quality of say a Leister(sp?), the actual OEM supplier of 911 mufflers. Or their H.E. to an SSI, which is SUPERIOR to any OEM H.E. ever supplied by Porsche.

Gentlemen, Gentlemen. Simple arithmetic may be the answer to some of your points. The older 911's are not mutliplying but like any old car declining every year. No business is going to commit soley to a consuming base that is declining every year. Plus, SSI's are made so well, once purchased, they are on for good. Or sold used to other owners. Sooner or later, I would expect production of these to diminish. I spoke to a RUF representative a few months ago that told me they are no longer making 17" wheels because of the decreased demands for 89 or older 911's. It may seem from this board that there are alot of 911's around, but compared to other used cars, that number may be small in comparison.

Since they are still available, I guess I would like some guidance as to whether the SSIs are sufficiently better to warrant the extra $$$????
I am hearing yes, but marginal (true equal length and possibly better SS). Thanks Cam |

get SSI's
My opinion is that you should get SSI's. For starters, I have seen them new for $840 or less. (Don't know what prices you have been quoted). Even if they are more money, you are spending a lot either way- I am not rich but this is a no-brainer to me. Secondly, because they last forever, used ones always come up and they are just as good as new ones if not damaged. Usually $500 or less. As far as putting a $ figure on equal-length, remember that we are dealing with very well engineered, high-performance engines and there are not many bolt-on improvements possible- this is the biggest one. Good Luck!

Denis - if you wouldn't mind emailing me where (email - not post, please - this is Waynes Board) you have seen the SSIs cheaper, I would be very grateful.
Sherwood, I understand Dansk sell both too, but I think they still have their own stainless exhangers, just not equal length - see: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911M/POR_911M_exhaus_pg2.htm#item3 Wayne has both Dansk for pre-75 and also lists SSI (for more $$$). Still confused a little bit :-(

Cameron, Next time you have a question like that for someone, e-mail, don't post it, (this is Wayne's board you know). I don't know what your options are in New Zealand- I live in So. California- but I guess shop around. I personally would much rather have used SSI's than new Dansk H.E., then go with a new Dansk muffler from Pelican if this is where you shop. I do not have any secret information on SSI prices, I just read Porsche magazines and surf this board like everyone else.
