Cracked my head, how common is this?

So I have been chasing down oil leaks for about 10 years now. Had the engine out and addressed all the usual suspects. Still left puddles. After a few more engine drops, this was the culprit. How common is this? The head is not stock, engine has been bored out to a 2.8 from a 2.7. Wondering if stock heads crack in the same spot too. End result is a clean engine with no leaks.

You can see the crack from both sides.

Interesting that the crack runs through the stud hole....maybe the stud was forced at some point in its life - dirty threads or a knock prior to assy maybe.

Is this (red arrow) a dent from not having the pin located?

If so, someone could have pulled the parts together by tightening the nuts with the index pin not in place.
This could stress that part of the head causing the crack.

Can you post a better image?

Best,
Grady

I thought you were refering to something else....

I was in the garage the other night and was pulling out the front AC Condenser I had gone to retrieve something and turned around real fast, came around a few moments later laying next to the short fridge, as I came too I noticed my head hurt...bad, opened the fridge and grabbed a cold one and applied it to my head which was covered in blood.

I had slammed my head into the sharp corner of the open hood and cracked my head.

The reason I am sharing this is because my story is less painful then yours.

Good luck with your rebuild.

Now, back to our originally scheduled program.

Well that's a "cracked head" story. But this one won't get fixed with beer. It does look like it was cracked by a out of allignment condition.

I better be careful not to jump too high and crack my head on the ceiling when I'm cheering for the Canadian men's hockey team as we thrash the life out of the US men's team in the Gold medal final. That is, if the US makes it that far!

Cheers everyone from the Vancouver 2010 Olympics!

Sounds more like a pipe dream than a low blow.
