How many dash variations are there on the speaker grill over the years?

Hello there "POST PICS OF YOUR ORIGINAL TO YOUR CAR DASH PADS"

I just bought a 74 911 parts car today and was wondering how many dash changes Porsche made on the speaker grill area, I ask this because after looking the car over i had not seen the dash that this car has in it. Im thinking maybe it was a universal replacement as it has no speaker grill just a small area of holes or perforation where the speaker would be. I would describe it as an octagon shape or something close. I didn't have my camera and the car is 80 miles north of here and wont get it till Wednesday. So my question is how many different variations of dash covers did Porsche produce. This appears to be an old dash with no cracks and according to the owner been in there for years. i have searched for pics of dashes and figured i would start a thread on what the differences might be. I will post pics after i get it but just curious as what dashes where available in what years. I have search on here and looked around and couldn't find any good info to speak of.

thanks guys for any help i just loose sleep thinking of the strangest things

cheers ed

Garage
1964-1968 : Two piece dashpad, metal armature, 3 defrost vents

1969-1975 : one piece dash pad on metal armature, 2 defrost vents, removable speaker grill with rectangular hole pattern.
Some replacement grills had a diamond hole pattern

Factory produced a full "one Piece" dash in response to the cracking on the removable speaker version. This was commonly available as a replacement part from Porsche. It was not a production fitted piece. Diamond hole pattern for the speaker holes. Two notches for defrost vents

1976: One year only dashpad with no speaker hole opening. A lot of people claim this was also fitted to the RS in 1973, but there is no published material to support it that i have seen. 2 defrost vents

1977-1983: One piece dashpad with no speaker opening. Leading edge center a/c vent. Two defrost notches

1984-1985: One piece dashpad with no speaker opening. Leading edge a/c center vent larger plastic outlet than 77-83

1986-1989: One piece dashpad with no speaker opening, same size a/c vent as 84-85. Long defrost vent at base of windshield with separate metal trim

1989 C4- 1998 : One piece dashpad with no speaker opening, same size a/c vent at 84-89, plastic trim caps on each end to cover revised mounting points. Long windshield base defrost vent with separate metal trim

The above is all from memory, so open to confirmation from others posting here

very impressive run-down on dashes! That matches what I know with my 70 and 75--including the replacement dash as described above that I bought for the cracked 70 dash.

hello all

i bought a 69 912 over the past week and it has the diamond shaped replacement dash that is mentioned above. the question i have is that i parted a euro 1969 911T some years back and have a dash pad with no vent or speaker hole, so is this a 76 dash pad ? i thought all this time it was a 69 dash pad but now im not sure. it is in perfect shape and i was going to put it in the 69 912 as the diamond shaped one is crack really badly. anyways i was about to install this dash but now im wondering if i should try and find the correct dash pad? i do kinda like the clean look of no speaker grill holes.

thanks for the help.

cheers ed

I tried looking around (searching), and didn't see any posts.

How big of a PITA is it to put a 88 dash in a 85? From what TRE says, the defrost vents are different, but if I have access to the later AC vents, is it a major pain?

Thanks

Jack
