CIS to carbs wiring questions.

I'm getting ready to put these on.

Now I have a bunch of wires I don't know what to do with. Currently these are puzzzling me.

I am pretty sure they came from my heater blower that I had removed some time ago.
The question is the brown wire is connected to my internal regulator alternator. It goes from the alternator to the connection, where it terminates and connects with the blue wire and the blue wire goes to the pin connector. There is also a black wire that is in an adjacent connector and it goes to the pin connector as well.
The black wire and the blue and brown wire are in separate housings but joined together.

There is also a brown wire from the alternator that goes to a connector that has a red wire that goes to the pin connector.

The yellow wire in the background used to go to my CIS. Some switch on the drivers side, I think it was temperature related.
The warm up? sensor down by the distributor had two wires on it that I removed. One of them was yellow and connected to same switch as the remaining yellow one.
What should I do with the remaining yellow?

Here are a few more. Any suggestions of what I can get rid of and how, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Why do so many wires run across the engine? Are they necessary?
Why don't they just just go around the engine like the wires in the pin connector?

most of the loose wires look like they are from the 14 pin connector. I wanted to get rid of every loose wire when I did the same conversion. I will pass along the advice of a wise mechanic that was offered to me. If you cant disconnect it easily or know exactly what it does, tape it up and leave it alone. I wrapped up most of the remaining wiring after i took out the lambda harness in electrical tape and wire ties and it lives quietly on the shroud. took a little while to get used to seeing it but better than trying to trace an electrical gremlin.

Hummm, back to the garage tomorrow. I would like to remove things but maybe just wrapping them up and putting them inside tubing would work.

Lightbulb

I removed the wires that I didn't need from the harness and the 14 pin connector, simply open it up and pull out the stuff you don't need and place it in a pile, use the pile for inspiration in a religious kind of way to pray and sing over in your own made up tongue prior to reconnecting the battery. Before you do the ceremony cover your face with a hand-print of cv grease and pound three beers in rapid secession...

It worked for me.

Also it helps to be naked for the ceremony but you may not want to risk it, if a fire starts and you have to get out real fast your neighbors might think your strange.

My car hasnt started yet... I am still planning that little finale dance, AKA jig, it is going to probably have to be choreographed. Even though I have had pretty good luck with the grease swipe and beer slamming and then doing whatever fells right.

One of the best investments I have made to date, is a Bentleys 911 workshop manual. The wiring diagrams would tell you everything you need to know and give you the information you need to decide on what stays and what goes.

O.K. what about the brown wire from the alternator that connects to a blue wire and then goes to the pin connector. I thought brown was always ground? Why does it change to blue?

I think I'll follow that yellow one through the body and find where it hooks up and remove it completely.

What I am also thinking about is moving my MSD and perhaps that whole aluminum cluster up a little towards the firewall and then having no wires go across my engine. There should be enough length in the existing wires to just make them go around the engine instead.
How long of a coil wire is O.K. to use?

They sell these pieces of diamond plate at Lowes Hardware that I think I am going to mount everything on, on the firewall.
I think it would look nice if I took the wires for the pin connector coming from around the engine. The wires to the pin connector coming across the engine and just made them all meet up in the back somewhere.
Nothing across the engine, except for what comes out of the alternator. That would go straight to the back.

Well hell! So.. question: is the sound different? If so can you describe.. Im talking more in the car.. I know there will be hissing when standing in front of the engine but Im generally inside the car when I drive so more concerned with that..

Im trying to reproduce the sexy ass sounds that came from my now gone 69t...

Arrow

The sound is different, it is more raspy and raw and you feel the engine more, I converted to carbs from CIS and then added SSI's and a M&K 2 in 2 out.

Now I am building it into a 3.2 Short Stroke.

Your cams will be OK with the carbs, you will notice better throttle response, but street driving at lower RPMs may have some rough spots.

You will get used to it and learn what gear to be in when for maximum acceleration.

I posted a video on you tube from in the car if you would like to hear it.

me too! the ever growing PRC spec 911 class does not allow cam & piston upgrades when going to carbs. i had mine out for the 1st time carb'd at laguna yesterday and scream it did! here's some video. sorry about the glare, working the bugs out of a new camera and the lack of light in the cabin due to tinted windows made the glare almost unusable. i still like the sound and driver's work...
