What did I do wrong?
Some of you may remember my leaking caliper issue, which led me to face up to the horror of working on my own brakes. Well, thanks to many here who gave advice, encouragement and assistance, I did, indeed, rebuild both front calipers on my 75 911S (targa) using parts obtained from our host. I know that I've got another round of bleeding the brakes in my future, as the pedal response isn't quite what it was prior to doing the work, but the car still stops well, and I'm getting good response 40% into the pedal, not just the 30% recommended by some here and in the Pelican tech articles here (which also say that re-bleeding the brakes after a week or so of driving is recommended).
Of more concern is the fact that now my brake warning light on my instrument panel (it's in the same dial as the engine oil temp + pressure, with the oil idiot light as well, I can post a pic if needed) is flashing. I did a search on the forums and learned that disconnecting the battery should re-set this. But no go. So, will this light go away with additional rounds of bleeding the brakes? Is it a symptom of additional work that needs to be done (new master cylinder? I hope not). Or is there another trick to re-setting this sucker other than disconnecting the battery that I should try first? Thanks in advance for your help. -- Tom '75 targa |

Hello
Im trying to remember on my 75 if the warning light ever flashed at me, I know i have seen it constantly on when my e-brake handle is not down all the way. But as far as flashing im not sure even when i had my master fail it ever flashed at me. Is it coming on only when you step on the pedal or just constantly flashing. ed

Blead, blead, blead. There is still air in the system. car is too old to reset the brake light it just works off differental pressure. Keep bleeding it with a power bleeder then use the two person bleed procedure to get the final air out of the system, keep at it.

Reminds me of a problem I had with my Mini. Pump until you have hard pedal. Once the pedal is hard, jam it in place with a stick. Take the lid off of your master. Leave it for a day or two. When you come back, you will have brakes.
Worked on the mini when nothing else would. Good Luck. Ken |
