I'm getting about 39ms avg to GOOG, and 88ms to both old server and new.

Loading and looking are fine but posting a reply takes forever.

I think I found an issue. The new firewall is rated at 12,500 max connections. The old firewall's stats say that the max connections since reboot was 21,000. The forums account for 60-70% of our traffic, so that would mean they would need 15,000 connections.

Strange, as the unit is rated at higher than 12,500 connections according to the website. It's an SonicWall NSA 240 - I wasn't too fond of how it looked when it came out of the box anyways (looked a bit too "consumer" if you know what I mean). I bought it from Amazon so that I could easily return it if it turns out it wasn't quite up to the task. I'll get the NSA 2400 instead, which is similar to the 3500 we have at the main office here.

I remember when I used to get more than 1000 people on the server at the same time it was a *huge* day. Now, there are a thousand people on the server on Sunday night at 8PM (typically a slow time).

We'll get these issues sorted out. Money is no object!

I'm just happy to have the forum, slow, medium or fast. I've learned stuff here that I couldn't get anywhere else. This is a fantastic resource. THANK YOU!!

Hi Wayne,
I would be very surprised if the NSA 240 was the issue. I support many installations all of which use Sonicwalls, NSA 240's in front of many servers/databases with no issues.
Consumer is a Linksys...

I'm pretty sure the 240 was the problem here. Right when I rebooted it the server came back up fast. I've had problems with SonicWalls in the past. The connections limit on this one is 12500 which is not what is says "on the box."

The hanging issue is gone. My ping results are similar to others

Ping Results
Old - 91ms
New - 81ms
Google - 15ms

I pinged a few other forms to test, they were in a 55 - 65ms range. The performance seems fine to me this morning from a user perspective. I would declare victory and move on.
