83 sc help!!!!!

Before you say anything, yeah, I'm a 944 (well actually 951) guy. I now have a 1983 SC, and a problem.

It idles at 1900rpm, and I really would like to lower that....How do I do that?

Help me please?????!!!!!

Need more details. Does it always idle high? If not, describe the situation.

I'd think vacuum leaks would make it idle lower (ie. taking off oil cap.)

Could be decel valve too. Easy to test and fix if it is.

It lopes when it is first started, then settles into a nice idle....once it heats up, the idle heads for the moon.

I'd try plugging the decel valve vacuum line. Pull the line off of the decel valve nipple - right side of engine towards fire wall. Then plug the line with a golf tee. Report back.

i take it by lopes you mean a low idle and barley turning over.

you may have more than one problem. i would look intot he following.

aux air regulator (AAR). check for 12v at the connector or stuck open.
WUR- check warm and cold control pressures, (WCP/CCP).
decel valve.

By "lopes" I'm guessing that the idle speeds up, slows down, speeds up, slows, etc.

Yes?

Give us more info.

When did this start?

Any recent service on the car?

Did you try removing the oil filler cap as per mca.

Good luck,

Gerry
