How to handle rust under targa bar?

I finally got around to taking my bar off for repainting. Just under the bottom edge on the passenger side door jam I'd seen rust for a few years but it turned out more substantial than I thought. There are actually four spots I see that need to be contained.

Any ideas how to handle this on a budget? I was thinking grind it out, apply rust inhibiting paint, then hand paint the section of jam. Thoughts please? I'm not too familar with decent products I can use up here in Canada. Thanks!

Garage
Is the rest of the car rust free? If so , I think I think you've depressed me.....I FEEL your pain. Do you garage the car or does it live mostly outside? I think you have two choices, either you do a proper job ($$$) or patch it up and save for the imminent day that cutting and welding will have to be done. If you just want to patch it up for now, I'd wire wheel and scrape the rough stuff off but be aware that you'll likely poke right through in places and then use POR paint (or the equivalent) to slow down the rusting process. It will probably necessary to cover the holes with something, perhaps fibre glass mat or if they're small, a caulking of some sort (silicon... ?) Good luck

Por 15 is a good product, and they make an epoxy putty as well. That would be a fair repair in my estimation, and might be all that is required. It would not be a welded in repair, but until you zoom in on that in 3D, it doesn't really look that scary. Wy don't you put a dremel wire wheel on that, and see how it cleans up ? It would be easier to attack with dental size tools than to get the big guns out. Dremels work great for that, although you might need a couple of the wire wheel attachments to clean it properly.

Then take a picture and post again. Might not be too bad.
