SSI Install question

Is there any value in a stock 80SC exhaust system? I live in hawaii and the shipping for a used buyer would be costly. I am contemplating using a sawzall to cut of the heat exchangers off so that a have clean access to the rusty nuts and allen nuts on the exhaust manifold. There by having a easier time heating and removing them. My main goal is not to break a stud. I have the oil lines all gaskets and new fasteners. Any other installtion tips or tricks would be appreciated, going in tomorrow or monday. Thanks for your time and knowledge.

Regards-

JS

The stock heat exchangers do more than just heat the cabin, they also provide airflow around the exhaust and are part of the engine cooling system. I would not just cut them off...

I just pulled mine off this weekend to put on SSI exhaust. I expected the worst, I had expected to need to heat them off with a torch.
Mine came off with no drama- even though they looked so rusty. I hit the exhaust nuts with WD40 the night before, and the only hint of an issue was when one stud on each side came out with the nut.

Removed mine 2 months ago, didn't even had to use heat!

The oil line nut on the thermostat, that's another story... Start searching for the 'dremel' method...

DaddyGlenn - as soon as my parts come in I'm having my '79 exhaust replaced with SSIs... so I'll have a near-complete exhaust for a '79.

I have heat exchangers, cat converter (old... probably needs to be replaced) and 1-1 muffler. I don't have the smog pump, it was removed by a PO. I was going to post in the sales forum.

No rust visible when I crawl under the car. I can post pics once they are off the car. I'm upgrading for performance reasons, not because the exchangers are worn out.
