AC question

I know most of you will know this off the top of your head.. But how do I tell which is the Low side on my A/C compressor ?

The lline between the compressor and condensor is the high pressure side....the line between the compressor and the evap is the low pressure side.

Other clues:

High pressure side usually has the smaller diameter hose/fittings and sometimes the high side compressor port is labeled "D" for discharge.


Low pressure side usually has the larger diameter hose/fittings and the low side compressor port is sometimes labeled "S" for suction.

Looking at the engine bay, the valve close to you is the High Side, the one towards the front of the car is the Low Side, sorry for the low tech advice.

Thanks guys, Draco, I think that it's compressor dependand as using the two replies above is opposite of mine.. high side is closest and on top,, Low side faces away and is on bottom..
I appreciate all the help!!

The large hose is the return or suction line, the small line is the high pressure line, number 8 size hose for discharge and number 10 for suction. If it still has the factory hoses, the smaller hose is the discharge line, also check D and S and top of compressor!
