Suspension noise

Hello, my 1986 Targa has developed a lot of suspension noise. Drives fine but it seems the entire suspension is squeaking on all four corners, worse on the driver's front though. Even the steering column seems to be squeaking. Any ideas?
Thanks.

check your bushings. if they haven't been replaced, they're probably shot and causing your t-bars to rub. also try a search on the steering column bushing - there are a few threads on the r & r

CHeck your Struts to see if they are loose.

About a year ago i developed some clicking noises and looseness in the steering.

I discovered it was my struts that were loose and I just dropped a washer down the strut and re-torqued it and click/clunk noises are all gone.

I have to agree with Myamoto1, old bushings will cause squeeking. Are they OEM or updated?

You could hear my '86 coming for blocks with all the squeaking .. replaced all the bushings - now I'm stealthy! (Well except for the exhaust noise...)

As far as I know, all the busings are OEM. About 58K on the car. The squeaks seem to be coming from everywhere which is confusing.

mileage is not the issue - the bushing cold flow over time - even with 0 miles

HAVE THEY EVER BEEN REPLACED?

if not, that is your problem

Try a search. I recall this subject has been discussed in the past.

Thanks for the replies. I went for a drive today and all the noise stopped? Would that be expected if the bushings needed replacement?

Temperature and humidity can have an effect on the noise level...

Maybe the car is rarely driven. Stiction maybe where the car settles at a particular point. Even my molygraphite bush does this. Good drive clears it

Hi all, I had some time today to have a look at it. Bouncing the driver's side front gave me the noise. It seems like the ball joint was the problem....gave it a silicone spray and the noise is totally gone. Ball joint is less than a year old.
