Idle and running problems 3.0 SC

Hi All,

Have had heaps of issues with high idle and idle quality on my 1979 3.0SC. I Though I had checked everything until I noticed that my car has had a new alternator with an internal voltage regulator (as the external voltage regulator was bypassed).

Upon checking the earth from the bypassed voltage regulator, I noticed there wasn't one. After checking the wiring diagram, I found that the earth for the voltage regulator is the same for the WUR, ICV and thermo valve. According to the wiring diagram, the earth is on the back of the alternator. Below is the picture of what I found when I removed at alternator - you can see the 3 earth wires disconnected off the alternator.

I can tell you how frustrating this is to find other peoples work is substandard.

Anyhow, idles fine and goes great

jmancool,

so you're saying you provided the grounds and found a happy ending? Title threw me off I guess.

Good on you!

I do understand your frustration, found my wrench took some short cuts - left some bits loose/undone - very stupid/uncool.

Everytime I work on the car, the only thing wrong with it is something that someone else has tried to fix.

the taped off blue wire goes to the D+/61 terminal. the black wire is not used. the cluster of brownwires of course attaches to the ground terminal and completes the grounds for other items on the engine.
