2.7 owners just didn't have the cash to buy a solid SC.

1) 1976 911s
2) 107,000 3) Wellington, FL 4) Mods: all the upgrades, i.e, tensioners, 11 blade fan, etc. The car runs great. 5) Replaced fuel pump about a year ago with rebuilt pump and it lasted until last week. Replaced with new Bosch fuel pump. Other than that have not done anything to the car. Just adjusted the valves after two years and only a couply were slightly out of spec. Getiing about 20 mpg combined milage. I lile the looks of the middle year 911s over the other years. It is a great looking car. |

Doug--you think your SC can out run my 2.7. Well, we could find out if you want. We could do a round trip from the Golden Gate Bridge to Ground Zero and back. No passengers, no mechanical help. Come on Doug, the boys would get a kick from this. You could bring your cell phone to dial 9 in the middle of no-where and ask for assistance from the mother ship.

1)1976 911S
2)~118K miles 3)Honolulu, HI - warm weather year round 4)Mods-Jacobs energy coil, Crane pointless ignition conversion, Jacobs spark plug wires, 11 fan blade from PO, and headers were on when I bought it. No idea when thermal reactors where thrown out. 5)Only problem I'd been having was an uneven idle (rebuilt WUR), but didn't get the opportunity to tackle it. Now car on jackstands waiting full rebuild. Tried to start car a few days ago...no fuses installed (fuel pump working) and would not start. Then all of a sudden I try again and CRACK! Something sounded like it exploded. Just imagine a firecracker going off...it was about that loud. Haven't had the courage to take another shot since. Before putting plates in storage, car felt good with lots of power for just a 165hp car. I am unsure of engine internals.

1. Car: ROW 1974 Carrera 2.7
2. Mileage: 290,000kms; rebuilt twice. The car has been raced all its life, so there! 3. Location: Sydney and Melbourne, Australia. It does get very hot here during the summer months, i.e., 4-5 days in a row of 110-120F weather! 4. Mods: 10.5:1 JE pistons; GE-60 cams; EBS racing springs and titanium retainers; 930 cam covers; SSIs; Monty muffler; ribbed valve guides. Oh, and timeserts! ![]() 5. Problems: None since the engine has been rebuilt (2,700kms ago). The engine has never been rebuilt due to issues that are supposedly endemic to some 2.7s, i.e., premature valve guide wear and pulled studs. I think the 911 flat six was the coolest configerashon (please exsuses my spelling spent more time in the workshop when I should been studying ) I seen in the bosche bible that flat 6, straight 6 , and 60* V12 are the most well balaced configerashon not needing conterweights that means less rotating weight =hp flat 6 keeps most of the weight low to the gound keeping the car from shifting and leaning. very clever cut out the weight of a radiator and afew gallons water and anti freeze. dryslump advantages , valves almost as big as the piston it self equal leaght headers under the heat exchanghers very well planned. How long did it other car companys to get the power and torque out a small displacment less fuel consupshion =less pit stops in racing. I like everything about this motor on paper and how it sounded ,but it is very tepermental and alot can go wrong with it and it did with mine. I'm under the impreshion that they hard to put together cause mine wasn't done right it's only has 10K miles on the rebuild and it's down for the count . Till I am taught how to Rebuild it the right way and I have a beter understanding. I hope the new water boxers are more simplistic with most of the other advantages I menchened

Doug,
I doubt it was the airbox blowing up. I do have a pop off valve installed in the airbox, so shouldn't that prevent it from exploding? But then again...I think I'm gonna have to take a look again where there's light earlier in the day.
