Source for Alternator Diodes

What is a good source for alternator diodes? A buddy is having problems with his '71 911T with external regulator.

He claims the battery, regulator and alternator are all fairly new. The battery drains in less than 12 hours.

The alternator light is illuminated when the ignition switch is in the "off" position. Pulling all the fuses did not reduce the current draw. Alternator output will not maintain 12V at the battery with the lights on.

He is retired on a fixed income and does not like the thought of having to shell out $350+ for a new (rebuilt) alternator.

He would rather buy beer for his buddies to try to replace the diodes in his alternator ... then shell out $350 for a replacement alternator after his buddies destroy the existing alternator trying to replace the diodes ... which were NOT the problem in the first place.

Thanks in advance.

Eddie

The Bosch 10mm diodes are still available. A 911T probably uses a Marchal/Motorola, however, and I don't think replacement parts are available for those.

Alt light with key off = blown diode.

Call Mark at Euro-Electric in Mass, Euro Electric Rebuilders of Bosch and other European Alternators, generators, and starters, please tell him John from Pelican sent you. He will be able to help. I don't think a blown diode will be that much to fix even if you sent the thing round trip to Mass and back via ground shipping.

There are probably rebuilders in Seattle, call John Walker and ask who he uses.

Good luck!
