Power window problem,89 Carrera
Hey guys,
I took off my passenger door panel to lube the window regulator and the tracks and now my window doesn't operate anymore. As per my Bentley manual,i have 12 volts going to the pass door switch coming from the red/white and red/black wires at the driver's side controls and i have 12 volts going to the door motor from the blue and blue/black wires ! Now besides taking the motor out from the passenger door and taking it apart,has anybody had a fix for this problem ? It has been intermittent on a few occasions and a few times when closing the door hard (my son ) the window motor worked again ... I can't seem to pinpoint the connector inside the door for the window motor,any help would be appreciated ! Cheers ! Phil

The window switch goes bad. Try swapping out with the other side and see if that helps. Take a picture or label the wires before disconnecting. I've had a motor go bad also, but it won't ever work if this happens.

Phil,
The best, and perhaps the only way isolate an intermittent electrical issue is to troubleshoot while in, or creating the failure mode. Using your multimeter, try to locate either an intermittent ground or power connection to the motor, by tapping on the door frame. I think that the P/W connector is a round connector which is attached to the bottom/inside of the door. If the issue is in both the up/down function, best guess is either the ground to the window switch, or the motor. Although a motor failure is typically permanent. Good luck, Gerry ![]()

If you can't control the pssgr window from either side (ie, drivers' side switch doesn't work either) I would have to think you may have disturbed something between the switch and the motor.
I'm not 100% sure on the wiring, but doesn't the driver side switch work even if the pssgr switch is toast? edit: Well there ya go. Gerry beat me to it.

![]() Further to what Gerry posted, if it's just the passgr side switch that doesn't work, but you have 12v going to it, it could be the ground connection circled in red. If it involves switches on both sides it could be the common ground circled in black, or one of the motor leads circled in green. I was just thinking: if the common ground (G116) area isn't made the driver's side window shoudn't work either. If you want to test the motor you could get a spare battery or 12v source and try touching the terminals to see if it moves. Could rule out the motor as the culprit that way first. I know that jumble of wires behind the door switches can be a handful!

O.K.
I've got power going to the switches and i've grounded the switch terminal with the brown wire to a good ground and the way i see it the power isn't going to the motor either due to a bad connection between the blue wires and the motor or the motor is toast ... Anybody know where the connector with the two blue wires from the door switch going to the motor might be,i am going to try jiggling it around to see if i can restore the contact,my next step will be to apply power directly to the blue leads going to the motor ! I guess the only other option if this doesn't work would be to take the motor out ... Thanks guys ![]() Phil

Guys,
Problem fixed... I managed to find the connector with the blue wires that goes to the motor and the wires were pulled really tight so i eased the stress on the plug by pulling down on the two wires coming from the switch loosening the stress on the plug and it restored the contact... That connector is accessible by the speaker hole and is approx 4 inches above the top edge of the speaker hole for anyone who might experience the same issues !
