Oxygen sensor harness Help
Guys who don't know me..... I acquired an 84 911 carrera ROW couple of weeks ago. It doesn't have a CAT, it has a funky looking pre-muffler with no o2 sensor just a bolt on the spot that looks like where the O2 sensor goes. I'm going to put a CAT in to pass smog. Got my O2 sensor today and can't seem to find the harness on the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Looked in the Bently manual and can't seem to find anything on the car that resembles that.

I can't imagine they made a different engine wiring harness for the ROW 3.2 cars. But I have been wrong before. I bet the O2 wire and connector are tucked up somewhere around the intake manifold. Here is a picture from my 3.2 that shows the three connectors for the O2 sensor and the flywheel sensors. I believe the top connector (orange in the picture with white wire) is the O2 connector.

The top connector is your cylinder temp sensor, nothing to do with O2. On US cars, the O2 connects over on the LH side of the engine compartment, right under the coil and fuel filter.

The white connector is the CHT and the two black ones are the flywheel sensors. The O2 connector is not shown in your picture. It would be a single-wire looking line branching off the harness where it enters the engine bay through the firewall. It is actually a thin coaxial cable.

Thanks, tomphot. Looks like that's it. I looked under the driver's seat and there is a white wire going into the DME shielded to the mounting bolt, it looks like the mod was attempted. The wire runs under the carpet towards the back seat, that's as far as I went. I don't see it in the engine compartment and don't see any box like you described. So looks like I will try my luck with the CAT to see if I can pass smog. I'm high on the CO about 1.5% HC is well within range. I also ordered a SW chip and pre-muffler. Hope that will still work fine. I will update smog test.

Hey rswamy,
Your car is 26 years old and that should qualify for antique tags (in TN) without smog testing or renewing every year. Besides, if you are about to turbo charge your 3.2 engine, you probably won't need the O2 sensor. Just my thoughts and best luck. And just in case you have not heard, there is a huge Porsche BBQ just outside of Nashville on Sat. Let me know if you need information and you can see my turbo setup if interested. Cheers, Darrell

You know, I did some research on that. A certified antique tagged car is restricted for weekend use only and not for general use. I didn't find any documentation on emission waivers for 25 year old cars. Here is the link to the regulations, I would kill to find out I'm wrong. Section 21-309 talks about a waiver for different model years, however I believe it is only a temporary waiver as far as I can tell. http://www.cityofmemphis.org/pdf_forms/MVIB_InspectionOrdinanceWebVersion.pdf My PO sent me the link to the BBQ, I don't think I'll make it, maybe next time.
