can I use a 964 windshield in my sc?

I am replacing my windshield in my 78 sc targa and my glass guy says the 964 windshield is larger and might not fit. I really just want glass with an antenna so I do not need a 964 windshield I can use a late 80s 911 glass. Do I need 964 seals if running a 964 windshield. Can I use my existing seals on a late 80s piece of glass?
I could look for other options as well I have backdated the car and do not have the exterior ariel. Can I run an antenna similiar ti a set radio antenna and keep it internal?

Many people would like to do this. Some have installed the 964 glass and seal with no problems and others have tried and given up in frustration. Try a search on 964 glass. Please report back here if you are successful.

964 windshield needs 964 seal. It should work without difficulties. I've done it myself in several cars of various years and it always fits. Better that the old style actually.

Plus you don't have to deal with the obnoxious aluminum trim insert, as the 964 seal doesn't use one. Better aero too.

Yes, please report back if you are able to install a 964 windscreen in a SC.
I have an '80SC, and would love to do this, but have gotten conflicting opinions on success! Some say they have done it while others say "no way possible"!

Tyson is correct!
964 windshield with 964 seal is a drop in.
Also you eliminate the exterior aluminum trim strip.
I have same in my '87 Carrera.

I recall some info I found while searching the threads that stated that the later "80s Carreras (87-89) had a taller metal "lip" that the seal mounts to, allowing the use of a 964 windshield and seal. It also stated that the earlier 911s with the shorter "lip" were a problem with the 964 windshield and seal. Anyone had any experience with this problem, or is it a problem at all. I would hate to buy a 964 windshied and seal for my "80SC, only to find it would't work!!

Good to hear that you've done it successfully. How about SCs and 3.2 Carreras? Did you use Sigla, Sekurit or some other make of glass..?

I watched/helped Tyson install 964 glass and 964 gasket onto an early car. I mean....pre-1974 car. Fit perfectly.

having read the thread from post 9 above from start to finish, my take on it is that the 964 glass isn't going to fit an SC, due to the flange being 10mm instead of 15mm. 993 glass, on the other hand, will fit, and many feel that it's a better solution.

Myself, I'll be sticking with stock glass and seal in my '80.

The screen and seal for a 964 are different. (Bigger screen, slimmer seal)

For the model year 89 they were using the same windscreen and seal for the Carrera 4 (964) and 3.2 Carrera (911)...
So I don't see why you couldn't use a 964 windscreen and seal in a 3.2 or earlier car.

Some time ago I read in a thread here that the window apertures of our P cars are the same for 911, 964 and 993.
That came from a replacement glass industry worker... Also, This applies to all of the windows in the car.

We know it fits on early cars and on later impact bumpy's.

The change to the 964 glass and seal was made from the factory to the MY89 3.2 cars built after 10-13-88. There was a TSB with the exact serial number break.

According to the factory, the windshield frame pinch weld lip was changed from 10mm to 15mm on '89 3.2 cars built after that date to use the 964/glass and seal.

That said, I've seen tons of stories here over the years of people who have successfully swapped the 964 glass and seal to pre '89 cars. It seems to work fine, but likely doesn't fit as well as it does on the late '89 3.2's.
