Speedo working— Odo not.

So today I noticed my odometer is not cranking up the miles anymore. Speedo works fine. Pulled gauge. All wires connected. Do I have to send it for a rebuild or is there something else to check?

This is not an uncommon issue as it happened to our '86.

Many posts on this subject.

Please do a search under odometer gear.

Good luck,

Gerry

Here is the thread: Odometer Gear replacement for Electronic Speedometers (long). I guess I'm game to give it a shot. If I f it up. I can always send it out for repair.

I just had mine repaired at North Hollywood speedometer last week. I looks and works like new, the cost was $ 142 including shipping.

Just ordered the 20-30 gear from our host. Figure if I can replace a laptop lcd, I ought to be able to do this.

Your posted thread is the best one.

However, the removal/re-installation of the needle is the
dicey part.

If you break/bent the shaft or lose the calibration, break out your
checkbook.

I looked at the risk/reward and had Paul's speedometer (local)
do the work @ $115.00 including the gear.

Good luck,

Gerry

Knowing that and reading about the CW/CCW rotation method, I will be super careful. Think I might be able to use those spudgy things I use on iPods for the bezel removal.

I did that job just following the 101 projects article about it.
In my case it was not the gear broken, but the gear comes loose from the shaft. It wasn't very difficult...

Not a difficult job.

The best instructions are on the odometer gear replacement website.
