Cars that we miss
Everybody usually has a car that they have sold - and later thought: Crap - wish I still had this car. So lets post some pics. My first turbo is the one that I miss the most but no pictures. So here is my 97 - 993 C4S - my first all wheel drive and first Porsche that I owned in a color (usually black - one in silver).
Lets see what you guys and gals miss. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I want my, I want my, I want my MGA
bare with me, could be long
This goes way back, to 1970. But just goes to show how the memory of a special car can stick with you. I was in the army at the time, had just finished A.I.T. in tanks at Fort Knox in Nov. 69, and was coming down with what turned out to be hepatitis, as I left for leave. With orders for Viet Nam. Spent a few weeks in an Air Force hospital near my home in FLA. The Air Force doctor who took care of me there arranged for an extension of my leave, and told me that I wouldn't be shipped over seas for at least six mos. Wow! I thought what a reprieve. So I checked out the local classifieds and found a good running, Lt Blue MGA. Bought it and loaded my duffel bag, a few changes of civvies, a hand full of 8 track tapes ( Hendrix, and Janis Joplin stand out in my mind). And headed out for Seattle Wash. In Jan. What a leap of faith. What a great car that MGA turned out to be. I don't remember a single mechanical issue on that long trip. Some weather chalenges to be sure. An over night blizzard in Texas was tough as the MG had the lowest clearance of most cars of that time, and was riding on its belly pan on the build up between the tire ruts in the snow. Quite a trip for a Fla. Boy in a roadster with snap in side windows. I would drive bundled up in my sleeping bag, till I was pooped out, then pull over under an over pass, hop onto the hood and snooze till the engine heat gave out, and the chill took over and forced me on my way. Well I eventually made it to L.A. then on up to Fort Lewis Wash. Only to be told when I got there that the Army saw no reason not to ship me right on over to the Nam. So I left the car with signed papers with a guy I had met in Seattle to sell it for me. I never heard from him or saw that sweet MGA again. Thanks for sticking with me, it did me good to get that all out. Cheers Richard |

![]() My first car. Same color 1959 Triumph TR-3. Cost me $200.00 in 1970. Fun car for a 16 year old kid. On my first drive with my girlfriend in the car, I brought it up to 50 mph and the hood flew straight up in the air like a foil, seemed like it went a mile high in the air, and landed about 100 feet behind me in the road, thank God no one was behind me at the time. My first experience in my first car with my first girlfriend and the first and last time a hood flew off a car I was driving!

I miss my Fiat 500. Air cooled 500cc, 2 cylinder, 4 speed crash gearbox.
To activate the starter you turned the key then pulled on a lever between the seats. The lever was attached to a cable that engaged the starter gear and then a switch. Great set-up. The gear was meshed before the switch powered on the starter motor. Heating the cabin was easy and it worked. The heat came from the cooling air of the engine and not from around the exhaust. You reached behind you and flipped a lever on the floor that opened a door which flooded the cabin with heat. I always though that I should build a similar heating system in my 911.

'88 535i, traded for '87 Carrera Cabriolet. Really wish I'd kept the 535i when I got the Porsche.

I miss my 70 Cuda. After my 2 daughters were born, gas prices were going up and my commute was getting further. I bought a VW Passat TDI and the Cuda just sat, Finally decided to sell it to get caught up on some bills, about a year or so after I sold it the market for them exploded.

Sometimes I miss the my old 63. It was a very solid, rust free car I bought in 72. I sold it in 83 when I bought my first 911.

Here is my first Porsche, when I was a geologist in Elko, NV in the early '80s. A
'74 2.0 Appearance package sweetheart. Great car, could cruise all day @ 90 and return 30 mpg. Lots of great road trips and adventures. Traded it in for a Quantum TD coupe and went to grad school. Amelia was her name.I was shooting a lot of BW TriX 400 Pan with my AE-1 back then.

NEWS FLASH: The 'new' FIAT 500 is coming back to the US. Fiat-Chrysler announced that it will be here for 2011. And, a couple weeks ago, I saw a small caravan of them doing high altitude testing here. They were accompanied by a Mini Cooper. All about the same size. It's a 500 in name only. Water cooled 4 cylinder. The 'S' is supposed to be very quick. Last edited by tcar; 05-23-2010 at 08:54 AM.. |

I had a 1973 Opel GT when I was in college. I might still have the car, but some guy ran a stop sign and t-boned me when I was a senior. It was not the greatest car in the world, but it had character...

All in all not bad but it's not something I would want to own. You should see the sun roof on the thing. Plastic rails greased up with Vaseline and because of the roof line they're on the outside of the car! ![]() The original had a folding sun roof. You undid one latch and it folded back on itself. Really simple and easy to use.

I miss my '99 Miata. A blast to drive and never gave me a minute's trouble in the 7 years I owned it. For what I got for it on trade at a dealer I should have just held onto it.
