Your continuous sparks are a mystery to me, sorry. However, to make your case clearer to those who might be able to answer, I have a suggestion. Your query was one long rambling sentence. Proof read your post and adjust your punctuation for clarity; this might help.

not sure if its this but when i had a 240z in the 80s i had an issue with the dist cap having a hair line cracks and carbon filled the cap.. i was getting intermittent spark when it wasn't suppose to get spark. replaced the cap.. back to normal.

There might be a break down of the Green Wire, check that (the wire coming out of the distributor going into the CDI box. This is a new one for me!! That is if you have one, I don't see what type of 911 you have..

That is a symptom of a failing CDI, Capacitive Discharge Ignition, module. And the CDI failure often results from alternator/regulator failure wherin the 12 volt battery is continuously overcharged...prevalent sulpher or sewer odor. |

I am struggling with how electricity can get to a spark plug if the rotor in the distributor is not pointed to that specific plug. Are you connecting the removed spark plug to its own plug wire or to the secondary coil wire (the fat one) that leads to the center of the distributor cap?
If you engine is not turning over and if your distributor is not carbon-ed up like Kanadary mentions there is no way that plug can fire connected to it's own plug wire - even if the coil is sending weird jolts of electricity to the distributor. This is not making sense Not doubting you, just challenging you. Take another plug wire off and hook it to the plug you removed. Is it still firing? Remove the coil wire and perform the same test with the plug wires. Isolate where the electricity is coming from. |

I am only guessing here since I have not seen the post prior to the edit. I assume you have Bosch CDI box. If you get a constant stream of sparks the box is bad and needs repair.

PUD's biggest communication problem is that he doesn't say what 911 he has. Until he does, no one can give particularly useful advice.

Good point! I did a little checking and apparently he has a 1972 targa with a 2.4 engine which, I assume, is in stock configuration.

Agree - I had to dig into his older posts to find what he had.
I have a feeling he connected the plug that he took out to the coil-to-distributor wire and sparking occurred then. There is a language barrier but he needs to continue to give feedback for additional support. |
