Two 911SC Questions

Hello, folks, newbie here. Have had my car (pic attached) for two weeks. It sat for four years and prior to that didn't get a lot of TLC. I'm sorting through a number of issues now - it's just got new tires and a full service - and providing that TLC. As I do that, a number of questions have arisen. Here are two of them:

First, the trunk lock isn't working. I can turn the key to the "locked" position, but the key then can't be withdrawn in that position. Anyone have any thoughts on how to solve this problem? Trunk locks are good things.

Second, the odometer isn't working. I pulled the speedo, took it to North Hollywood Speedometer (which is not far from my home) and Kevin, the tech there, told me it works just fine. So - must be the sending unit, right? Anyone know how much of a PITA this is to replace?

Thanks in advance!

Hello 5String, beautiful car and welcome to the board; you're gonna like it here, lots of great people.
I would try spraying WD40 into the key hole of the lock, maybe a tumbler is getting stuck.
As far as the sending unit... i have no idea; I've never had to replace mine.
You need to buy a Bentley Repair manual for your car, it'll help a lot as far as DIY projects.

The odometer doesn't work but the speedo does? That's what mine does too. Didn't do that when I bought it though. I thought it was the odometer. I do know that there is a connector at the tip of the tranny towards the front of the car with two wires that go to the speedo. Mine was a little worn when I had my tranny and engine out. Not sure if you can inspect that with the trans still in the car.

if the speedo works and the odo does the trip meter work ??

check the tech section on this site and see if the issue there is what you have

and along with gerry's recommendation buy waynes 101 book it also has the tech article on the speedo and is a good read, the bently is great but not an afternoon read, more like a read and repair but is very in depth but not over advanced

trunk lock can't help mine doesn't have one ... only a pull rod at the driver door .......

If your sppedo works but your odo doesn't. you probably need a new odo gear. I would think NHS would have told you if that was the case. Check this out Odometer Gear replacement for Electronic Speedometers (long).
