Is that part of the cooling or intake?

That's just part of the heater system. Should be able to identify the part number via the Porsche PET catalog, then punch it into Pelican and order a replacement.

Yes, been there, patched up with duct tape and ordered a new one. P/N 96410640302 (updated from 96410640301)
Best prices are around $50- $66 or so, shop around list is $103. Guess that the rubber/vinyl type material just gets tired after 20yrs or so. That said, the new one seemed to be a bit more robust.

Did something come off your alternator and punch that hole?

That piece just crumbles with old age, been there. Perhaps the updated part number
addressed that issue, who knows, but the one I replaced 4 or 5yrs ago is still pristine.

As an inexpensive option - Gorilla tape is heavy duty and it is black.

Further along I'll know more about it, further along I'll understand why
Don't know what happened, I too was woried something may have punched through it.
So I have new one coming from Pelican, about $110 total after I pay Trump off. But it's worth it not too have it "ducked up with tape". Not that I haven't used it before. I have gray duck, black duck and ape tape on hand at all times and I'm not shy about using it Thanks too all who gave there opinion. Great article on Pelican on the very problem I have with this "Air diverter shroud" Thanks for looking guys. Last edited by yellowperil; 09-06-2018 at 02:38 PM.. |

Use HVAC aluminum tape for heat resistance, duck tape will just make a mess while you wait for the part, spray it with BBQ paint if you want to hide it :-)

It's an odd failure for sure. Did that melt away (Forget the tape !) or there's part of the shroud somewhere in the engine compartment ?

All fixed now,
With the busted air duct I'm sure the motor ran hotter and stinkier and I wouldn't recommend tape (I tried it but it just didn't look right).
Runs better now and less stinky. FWIW, my '95 993 uses a "94 964 duct", took two tries from Pelican to get the correct duct. ?? And a bunch more $$ ![]() ![]() ![]() |
