The ONE day I drive it to work.....deer hit:(

Big ol' deer tried to jump across the front of the 911... he didn't make it. Stupid deer.

I decided at the last minute this morning to drive it to work and take the long way home.

Anyway, it's already at the body shop and the owner will take good care of it. Insurance should be all set as well.

Sorry to see the damage. Glad you can get it fixed right away!

I had an SUV backup on my hood - and the scratch remains. Someday.....(item #52 on a long list.)

Do you get venison for dinner? I hear they do that in Alaska.

Trying to cheer you up.

Stupid deer.
At least it didn't end up in your lap.
Hope she's good as new shortly.

On the bright side, when I slammed my deer (daily driver, but much more damage...thought they might total it), I asked my agent about the deductible. He said there was none; that it was a comp claim, not collision.

When I expressed surprise, he explained by saying deer were "an act of God."

But I can still remember the slow motion "oh s#$t." You see it coming and there's nothing you can do. I tell everyone the deer must have been aiming for me, it was timed that perfectly.

I always worry that a 911 would throw a deer right up into the windshield, so I'm glad you're okay. Here's to you getting it back on the road quickly...

The shop owner is going to "take care of business" while he's repairing the nose.

It has some stone chips/road rash so he is going to work those in for me.

He's a car guy so he understands what it takes.

He said the hood is junk so he'll get a new one.

The paint isn't factory so it's not that big of a deal.

The deer kept going so I don't know what happened to it. He actually ran along the driver's side for a moment and THEN decided to jump. I was braking as he hit me so it could have been worse had he hit me broadside. Short of taking another road there was nothing I could have done to avoid the collision. Large ditches on either side of the road would have made swerving a bad decision.

I'm all settled down now but I sure was ticked at the time.

Thanks for letting me share.(Yes, one of the first thoughts was to get pics to post here.)

THIS is a stupid deer. I was at the range over lunch today and this deer was wandering around for 40 minutes while me and one other guy were shooting handguns. I guess they can get used to anything.

I would suggest keeping or at least photographing for record the option sticker under the hood, if you have one. It's kind of nice to have.

Edit: a deer walking through a shooting range... too funny!

Dude, that sucks... but look on the bright side, you got very lucky.

I've seen too many cars totaled out by deer. Given how low the nose of a 911 is, it could have easily gone into the front window. That's usually what does in the car... driver being distracted by dead animal stuck in the hood & blocking the view hitting something with less give, like a tree.

Good luck with the repairs.

Man Wayne, That stinks!!!! I am glad you were okay. As low as our 911's are, I worry about them coming through the windshield. I am sure you will be back on the road in a couple of weeks.

That SOB looked as big as a moose at the time!!

Aren't deer supposed to be hibernating or something right now?

I've seen many more lately than in the past at this time of year.

Wow - sorry to hear about that - glad it's working out and that you're ok.

Nailed one with a previous car - you're right about the slow -mo.
And the story about it running along side - that's rich - same thing happened to my wife - a horse got out from the stable and took a left into her pass. side - at least that's what she told me.

srsly - glad yer ok

I'm sorry to see/hear that. Just glad you didn't end up getting close and personal with the stupid deer. Cars can be fixed (usually).

Okay. . this brings around Darin's "(REALLY) stupid question # two" of the day.

I've got a '76. I've been having a hard time finding decent insurance, sans I only have liability at the moment. I'm not worried about my driving so much, but I'm getting tired of driving around puckered and worried about someone else, perhaps w/o insurance. . .or worse yet a good Colorado hail storm or herd of elk.

Who is a good insurance company with competitive rates that will insure this car as a daily driver for me (If they even need to know the latter.)??

That is a great question, actually.

We have State Farm for all of our insurance coverage. My 911 is NOT a dd so we have it insured as a classic auto with stated value. We had it appraised when we switched to SF. Because of our many discounts, it is very inexpensive to insure.

Being that yours is the primary vehicle, I think any insurance will cost you more because of the chance of an incident.

Sans the reason I need to get a beater. Perhaps I need to get my beater 944 on the road again. Liability on that + classic on the 911 would probably be cheaper than good coverage on the 911 as a DD.

Thanks Haha.

My Mazduh and the Grand Caravan each cost more to insure than the 911. I keep full coverage on it year round because it is so reasonable.

Check with your agent about discounts for multiple policies and shop other companies.
