California smog test.

There have been several threads on the updated California smog test parameters.

For general information, here's ours for 2009 v/s 2011.





It would appear that the NO (PPM) MAX Value has been modified.

Hey Gerry, looks like your measured NO levels are quite a bit lower than 2009, too. Did you do anything different?

I'm curious whether the measurement/testing protocol (or equipment?) might have been revised since then, resulting in lower allowable thresholds but also lower measured PPM levels?

Your NO measured a lot lower in 2011 vs 2009, how did you manage that?

Looks like it is getting more like other vehicles, ~700 NoX.

The only variable associated with today's smog test is a different smog station.

Today I used:

Auto Checks Center on Sepulveda Blvd, Manhattan Beach. Mileage=107,669

The 2009 smog check was performed by:

Beach Smog on Aviation Blvd in Hermosa Beach. (no longer open) Mileage=102,505

The only "hint" that I can pass on, is that the tests are performed with the front oil cooler fan relay removed, and at an engine temp of about 220-230F.

It interesting to note that the HC and the NO did increase a bit.
