Post Green Distributor Wire/Plug on '82SC

Hey Guys,

I was down to the very last electrical connection before putting the
engine back in my car. I pulled the distributor, plugged the green wire
into the side, and as I am reinserting the distributor, I hear the
sickening "crunch" of brittle 19 year old plastic.

I munged the plug.

I am sick enough of this project at this point that I almost ignored this
problem, but sanity ultimately prevailed.

I can't find any reference to this part or its number in any of my
manuals. Is this plug/wire available from Porsche or aftermarket either
one? Does anyone have a part number for me?

Finally, what does this wire do for me and is it necessary for proper
operation of my car?

Thanks!

Mark,
Part # is: 930 602 907 01

You surely do need it. It is the link for the distributor pickup to the CDI.

Thanks, Doug!

Does that part include the connector as well?

Thanks,

on some looms, this wire is not detachable. if that's the case, it has to be cut and soldered on. use shrink tube to protect it.

If you wanted an alternative to the $30 factory connector and cable, some military surplus (or IBM ... it is used in old System/360 mainframes by the mile) Twinax cable and connectors would work nicely! But it isn't a 5-minute minute 'fix' ... as it takes about 20-30 minutes to assemble one Twinax connector by hand and solder properly!

Thanks for the replies. I'm pretty clear on what I need to do with only one question about splicing new with old:

If this wire is shielded and needs to be cut/soldered, won't there be "leakage" at that point afterwards? The last thing I want is to create an RFI problem.

Thanks,
