Porsche Crest Turn signal indicator light

On my 1985 911 Carrera, the left turn signal indicator lights both front and rear do not illuminate when the turn signal is used, nor does the left arrow in the dashboard light up when the turn indicator is pushed down to indicate a left turn. However, the turn signal activates right indicator lamps, and the hazard lamp switch operates all the indicator lights, including the left ones. It seems as if the problem is in the left indicator switch since the hazard switch operates/flashes all the indicator lights. Do I have to replace the indicator switch or can it be repaired if it's just a bad connection for the left turn lights? Also, is the switch a single switch behind the turn signal lever for both left and right indicators or is the left switch separate from the right switch? Once the steering wheel is removed, how difficult is it to remove or repair the switch?

As per several posts on this subject, cleaning the switch may resolve your issue.

Do you have a Bentley?

jamlen,

before you inspect the turn signal stalk, make sure you check underneath the engine hood. There is a Hella engine compartment light on the hood. If it is inoperative or has a electrical short, you will encounter the exact same problems you have diagnosed.
