What head seals are you using in 964?
Are the rolled steel 964 head gaskets (96410411520) really a direct replacement for the graphite seals (96410411500) used in 1992 3.6 engines?
![]() I much prefer to replace my original graphite seals with the same type, but I am being told that the newer steel seals are a direct replacement even though at 2.5mm wide, they are way too narrow for the 4mm wide grooves in my barrels. They will have 0.5mm of crush, so that may be enough to do the job, but it just doesn't look right. ![]() What are you guys using when rebuilding 3.6 engines which originally had graphite seals?

Anyone?
The steel seals just don't look right in the wide groove intended for the graphite seals.

I am still looking for a source of the original graphite gaskets or confirmation that the narrower 2.5mm steel rings are OK in the 4mm wide groove.
More details and pics in this other thread on engine forum.

As far as I know the replacements were graphite. You could switch to steel but the seal contact surface on the cylinder heads had to be refaced. This might not have been done on yours. I´ve called a few people I know here in Germany but they only have the steel ones.
