Never Replace Another Hood Shock
I have finally found the supplier of a great device that fastens to the old worn out hood/engine gas shock and holds up them. It is made by Pylon and it is call the lift lock. I have had one one my SC for 8 years without a problem. Check it out

Being plastic, I wonder if it is designed to break before the hood bends, if someone tries to slam the hood shut. That would be a great design.
80s Ferraris have a mechanical type strut, it's like the regular porsche one except it mechanically "locks" in place. You have to push a ball in to release it. You see a lot of those cars with "kinked" hoods! |

It looks a lot like a lift lock I had on my 68 for years. Worked like a charm until the body shop, not knowing the trick, snapped it. I was surprised, because I really didn't think it would break.
So now I just replace the struts from time to time...but maybe it's time again.

Roller blinds for a Targa top ??
In my unrelenting quest to improve a perfect design (Targa
![]() What about fixing a couple of spring loaded roller blinds below the Targa bar that when extended would lock into some hooks on the windscreen rail ?? It might look naff but it would get some protection from the sun, bird drops and prying eyes... Any thoughts ? |

Just put the Lift Lock on today. Doesn't add weight, no holes or mods to the stock car, simple to use and works great. Best of all, there's no prop rod to bang into while working on the car. Thanks for the suggestion speedman.

I'm not knocking any of these solutions, but there is a very easy way to replace the front hood shocks - just leave off the bottom clip. The spring force of the shock will hold it in place just fine (I've had mine like this for over 200k miles).
Hope this helps, Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 320k miles |

I just went to my local Advance Auto Parts and bought 1 of the "Pylon Lift Locks" for $12.89. That's all they had in stock and they didn't expect to get restocked. The part # is 8200 and it's made by Pylon Mfg. in Deerfield Beach, FL 33442. It's raining, so I may try to install it today...

I've been using the same idea on my engine cover. I use a stiff piece of rubber hose with a slit cut down the side so I can slip if over the shock. If I forget, the rubber hose just pops off.
