try going to control panel and open "folder options" and look through the file associations in the "file types" tab once it has populated them all.
you should find JPG and JPEG in the list alphabetically and you can choose the default program for opening them. import and or restore them if they are missing, disabled, or corrupted. Google the problem and you will find lots more help... |

OK, I am going to stop the hijack.
![]() As my closing remarks, manually editing the file name does not work. I can go through the roundabout conversion process, though. I tried the file default program association thing- did not work. I took a chance and did some Vista updating, including an IE upgrade- did not work, brought my computer to the brink of destruction. An update for my mousepad thing failed and I was dead in the water until it re-installed the drivers itself. I had turned off updates after my last round 5 months ago resulted in no sound working on my computer. Don't you love Microsoft Vista? ![]()

I might try that, but I have not done anything to the system settings in the timeframe where this change occurred. No updates, either, until today.
