try going to control panel and open "folder options" and look through the file associations in the "file types" tab once it has populated them all.

you should find JPG and JPEG in the list alphabetically and you can choose the default program for opening them.
import and or restore them if they are missing, disabled, or corrupted.

Google the problem and you will find lots more help...

OK, I am going to stop the hijack.

As my closing remarks, manually editing the file name does not work. I can go through the roundabout conversion process, though.

I tried the file default program association thing- did not work.

I took a chance and did some Vista updating, including an IE upgrade- did not work, brought my computer to the brink of destruction. An update for my mousepad thing failed and I was dead in the water until it re-installed the drivers itself.

I had turned off updates after my last round 5 months ago resulted in no sound working on my computer.

Don't you love Microsoft Vista?

You could try a system restore if there is a restore point date before something changed a setting in the registry causing this. That should bring it back and it won't remove any of your data. Windows update will redownload any critical updates if there were any again.

i'm using XPpro sp3 so it's a little easier..

I might try that, but I have not done anything to the system settings in the timeframe where this change occurred. No updates, either, until today.

Funny you should say that, Wayne. Just tonight, I waited far longer than 10 seconds to load a page from PP. However, the mail order side of your system is lightning fast. BTW, the P/P bb is the only site I visit that has loading problems.
