Need information on what my car'should' look like?

Good Evening Everyone
I am new to the forum, and just collected my first porsche.
It's in need of some TLC and resto, so not on the road yet, but i am itching.........
The car is a 1973 UK Registered 911, and I would like to find out more about it, specifically year of manufacture and original specification etc.
It appears to have been altered a lot (colour, torbo rear arches and a larger engine capacity).
Just wanted to know if there is a central resource, or web site I can investigate?
Many thanks in advance for you help.
Regards
Mark

Good morning

You can get a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche. I do not know how to do so, but the people on the Early 911S Registry can help you. (It is for all early 911, not just 911S). Early 911S Registry Bulletin Board - Powered by vBulletin

Pictures of the car, engine and interior would be a good start

We might be able to tell you what engine you have with the engine #, find your engine # (base of fan on lower right) post it here. As well as decipher your VIN# as far as model & production info, well if you haven't already done so on Early S

Do you have any of the books yet? 101 projects, Bentley etc

Oh yeah, Welcome!

Hi All
Thanks for the info so far, I really didnt know where to start.
I have the Haynes manual and the 911 Porter Resto Manual, which only arrived today.
I enclose pic of the ID tag I have found so far, and will try the other forum as advised.
Got so much to do, and itching to start really..........................
Thanks again
Mark

I use "The 911 & 912 Porsche: A Restorer's Guide to Authenticity by Dr. B. Johnson" . This is the best source of what you car was supposed to look like before the previous owners started "improving" it. For fixing it up, the Bently manual and 101 things to do to your Porsche as stated above, and perhaps "Buying, Driving and Enjoying the Porsche 911 and 912, 1965-1973 James E. Schrager".

This website and our host are also great resources.
